I had to go see about a guy. Skipped out of the #snagboston conference for a sec to pay respects to Robin Williams by pounding a Genie pin into the bench, a la Navy Seals Trident style. The significance of Robin Williams in my life is strong, engrained into my headspace for the full duration of my life. I rarely connect with high profile personalities, and he was one of the few. His passing last August was devastating, and landed on the 13th anniversary of my first suicide attempt. I dedicate this to him. This genie pin was a part of a performance art piece for the #snag2015 pin swap. My piece "Untitled (On the Head of a Pin)" utilized existing pins sourced from my mother's, great-grandmother's, and personal pin collection. All of which I painted over in Phthalocyanine Green acrylic as the base with single emotive words in Titanium White acrylic. This is not about technique, design, or material- rather purely about story, concept, and human connection. The words represent emotions that I identify with the pin itself, memories attached to the pin, or the original owner of the pin. The 15 pins were then dispersed among conference attendees as we swapped stories of similar circumstances. #wearableart #snagmember #robinwilliams #goodwillhunting #bostonstrong #contemporaryjewelry (at Boston Public Garden)
