Snail party
Inktober day 2 - Mindless
21 March, 2019
Snail party today!!! The lads and ladies all seemed to be enjoying yesterday’s rain, as they were all out and about this morning. Their water dish remained in place, which is good, and the heavy rain refilled both the dish and the well for me. Due to the angle of the new pot, some water had accumulated in the bottom. I am not overly worried about this as there’s a drainage hole partway up that should prevent the entire thing from flooding. I’m guessing they are enjoying their new food source of bell peppers, since there was QUITE the accumulation of slimy trails on it. The exposed edges of the mesh cover, although secured with staples, had been covered with gorilla tape in order to prevent escape, but the damp weather has rendered the tape useless, so I may need to look into a new means of securing the edges. There was, however, nobody on the mesh cover today, except a couple of strange looking bugs caught between the tape and mesh.
After yesterday’s sprinkler incident, I decided to remove the cover and move the snails to where they could easily be documented as I observed them this morning, and thankfully, all 13 of them were accounted for.
Snail Report:
Walter: Accounted for, partying, zooming about
Big chungus: Accounted for!* Residing on the underside of the roof of the new pot.
Sneadore: Accounted for, hiding under the wooden structure
Snicholas Snage: PARTY MONSTER!! He was absolutely BOOKING IT across the wooden platforms!
Snames Snond: Accounted for, spying from behind the established pot
Turbo: Accounted for, partying, zooming about
Sunny: Accounted for, resting on edge of enclosure
Snall Blart-Snall Cop: Accounted for, lodged near leg of structure, hopefully okay. The only snail not partying this morning, was found upside down but intact. Will update.
Sheldon: Accounted for, partying on wooden platform
Susan: Accounted for, resting on established pot
Sloppy Joe: Accounted for, partying, zooming about
Shaquille O’Sneal: Accounted for, attached self to back end of new pot and partially covered himself in dirt
Beans: Accounted for, stealthing in joint of wooden structure.
*I hadn’t seen Big Chungus since returning him to the enclosure the other day, so I was very glad to see him this morning.
Snail Fact!
Snails are pretty strong little buds. They can lift up to 10 times their body weight in a vertical position.
