NEW KIDZ :D

Got me a couple of wee lil marbled limpets from AquaticArts. I’m down to 2 in the big tank and they need a bit of help with the algae. These flat lil guys are hands down the best glass cleaners I’ve ever had, and I’ve owned a lotta different snails. They came a lot smaller than the last ones so I’m a tad nervous about how they’ll do with the big fish but fingers crossed they’re nice and grippy

And finally starting to fatten up a bit! When they first came home most of the wee lads didn’t even fill out their shells, now they go all the way to the edge. The solid colored one even has a bit of new shell growth 👀

Speaking of snails, I found one of the smooth nerites as an empty shell in the back corner yesterday :( The larger one, the female. Not sure when it happened cause it’s hard to keep track of them in such a big tank but probably was a little while ago given the lack of eggs everywhere, I think she was the main layer or maybe even the only female in the tank. I don’t know how long those guys live, I had her maybe 2 years? Jonah and the other male are still looking fine. 

I also found one of the limpets gone which is recent cause I just saw it last week, poor kid was slurpsed >.< They have really strong grip but don’t have belly shells so if they do slip or get flipped over they’re pretty much served right up on the half shell for the goldfish.. 

I added some extra calcium since the limpet shell seemed a little weak. And it seems like even with the UV there are some diatoms growing in which is good, should provide some more food for them. I’m thinking about farming some algae on some rocks in a separate container to put in there to let them eat? I’m still hesitant to turn the UV off but I’m also aware that there might not be enough algae to go around, and they’ve never showed any interest in any other solid foods or even like leaf litter or feeder blocks.

husb said this to me this morning, and I gotta say, as someone who is a snail a non zero amount of the time on the internet, it hits strangely. It hits Peculiar. (i'm still flattered)
