Hey so. Idk if you're reading this since it seems like you blocked me. You know who you are I guess. But I'm sorry I didn't reply to you message, it meant a lot it really did. I've been up to my ears in home stuff and was off tumblr for a couple days. But I do want to be tumblr buddies still I'm sorry if my silence came off bad. shrimp are the most powerful animals in the world

Let me explain the set of circumstances that led to this Eulimnadia clam shrimp living out its entire live cycle in a styrofoam cup on the ground.

The cup fell, blew, or rolled into a sideways position on the rocks where it could hold some water and rain could still splash into it, but it wasn't immediately cooked by direct sunlight. There hasn't been enough rain to fill the surface of that ditch itself for years, but evidently at least one shrimp egg from the soil from a past year must have rolled into the cup or been pushed there by a bug or animal, plus some dried bits of algae and microbes, and enough dead leaf bits and soil to feed them. Then, for at least a week (based on shrimp's size), enough rain fell to keep the cup full enough to grow not only the shrimp, but enough things for it to feed on. So, now it's just in there, quietly eating microbes and filtering water in a single cup on the ground, laying clone eggs into the tiny bit of dirt at the bottom and doing whatever. It's good sized and healthy, too. This isn't even that unusual of a container; I've found them in old tires before.

You can hopefully see why I have to tell as many people about these things as possible.

One of my very old paintings, from the time when I had just started learning acrylics. Back then I didn’t even know gel medium existed.

I was still trying to paint acrylic the way I painted with oils-creating long blends, soft transitions, and transparent layers. But acrylic had other plans. It dried so quickly that I was constantly wondering what was happening, and as the colors dried darker, I struggled to judge the depth and values.

I also made the ambitious decision to use such a large canvas for what was essentially a learning piece. Looking back, that was probably a little too optimistic.

Even so, this painting has stayed with me. It still stands in the hallway of my home, quietly reminding me of that stage when every painting was an experiment and every mistake taught me something new.

I don’t know what its future will be, but for now, it still has its place at home. 💙

Exciting day!!! Tadaaaaa I am now in posession of 1 (one) retired former Red Lobster restaurant lobster tank. It's a marineland commercial grade tank, 120 gallons with a good sized built in sump and waterfall modification. It's replacing my beloved 150g as the living room goldfish tank, while the 150 goes to the basement to eventually be a tropical community.

I'm so excited, it's such a cool piece! It's a little scuffed and the doors are missing so it needs a bit of tlc to get it pretty again but it's so worth it

Last year, I befriended a Catholic seminarian. We've gotten to be pretty decent friends. Seeing as he was staying in town for the summer and I wasn't, I entrusted him with caring for my plant.

He did a wonderful job, but as he was returning my plant to my custody, he explained "I watered her every other day, I gave her new dirt, moved her into the sunshine, prayed the rosary-"

"What?"

He looked at me, confused. "Isn't she a plant you pray with?"

"No," I said slowly. "She's a prayer plant. That's the... colloquial name of the plant."

Upon seeing his stricken face, I realized something went wrong. Turns out, this entire time, he's been including my plant in on his prayers and leaving her near icons.

Listen, totally cool. My plant becoming Catholic is a great deal for her not dying over the summer. But now I must navigate this interfaith household. Keep me in your thoughts.
