a mechanical bark startles the ghost, giving them very short warning before they are swarmed by a few of the netwalk’s oddly-shaped canines.

not that the little vessel knows what exactly they are meant to be. strange-looking creatures are par for the course in spirale, especially compared to the land from which the ghost hails. although they are a bit unnerved to be suddenly crowded by the tablet-or-monitor-headed dogs, the cute emoji faces that project from the screens baffles and elates them. just like those they find on their own cell phone!

however, their pale shell is beginning to be bonked around. it seems that the animals are just as enraptured by the vessel as they are by them. wriggling uncomfortably in the sea of pups, the ghost reaches a clawed paw out to the nearest passerby.

The resemblance strikes him like a bolt of lightning. To say he is shocked is a gross understatement - the blond’s whole body seizes up. Nerves fire rapidly, panicked, angry. Move, move, scream, punch, destroy.

Worst of all is when the memories return. They are merciless, flooding him, knocking his fury off its feet and sweeping it away into an oblivion that swirls, thrashes in his mind. Images return to him, snapshots of the rebellion. The last he had recalled, after sitting aside to focus on them dutifully, had been the cars. Smoking, overturned in the snow. Sunrise was upon them, as was the sunset of Liquid’s life. The virus grasped his heart, squeezed the life he so desperately fought for, the one he had to legitimize alone. Taken from him, just like that.

A super soldier, a clone of Big Boss himself, meant to stay standing through the shrapnel and fire and bullets, had been robbed of his life by a government that had conceived him before casting him aside. By the brother who had taken everything from him, wittingly or not, which did not matter. Intention didn’t matter. What’s done is done.

Liquid Snake was meant to be dead. All of the hatred and sorrow in his heart could not capsize this singular thought. He was alive, when he very clearly recalls dying at his twin brother’s feet.
