Do you have any tips for owning Ball Pythons? I'm planning on getting one soon so I want to do as much research as possible. Thanks!
Ball Pythons aren’t meant to be beginner snakes. That being said I did just that, and I was very uninformed buying my own first snake, thankfully Harding is, well, hardy. His nature is to survive so despite my flaws he ate and kept docile.
So it’s get informed, to the point where you yourself can educate. WMSS has said that if you are a beginner you should listen more than twice how much you talk which seems harsh but it’s necessary. I read everything that comes out and question it from every angle. I can tell you WHY something should be done the way it is done for my animals.
We don’t want anthropomorphism either but sometimes it has a place. Do you want to live in a room you can’t stretch out in? Do you want a single blanket and a dirty bottle of water? Do you want nothing to do? No you need more than that to live a good life. While on the other hand, your snake doesn’t love something, no they don’t want to hang out with you cause it’s fun.
I guess to put it simply, learn to the point of being able to teach it, watch carefully (I can’t tell you how many questions WMSS gets that I can answer just because Heather has answered them before and they are in her FAQ) think critically for both sides, be open to criticism. Everybody gets things wrong, find it and fix it.
