Any recommendations on snake breeds to look into that are a small size, low activity level, and maybe enjoy human interaction/holding? I'm just getting into snakes and this blog is awesome! Also any info about corn snakes?
Hello and thank you! Most of your questions can be answered with a post I wrote for another recent anon with similar questions. I hope you don’t mind my linking that here, but it was a pretty good post and I don’t think I can top it working from scratch.http://omg-snakes.tumblr.com/post/155831119526/hey-im-looking-into-getting-a-snake-for-my
There are lots of great smaller snake species. Corn snakes don’t get huge, but if you’re looking for something that stays under five feet you’ll be looking at sand boas, rosy boas, some milk and king snake species, hognose snakes, house snakes, African house snakes, and ball pythons.Human interaction preferences vary by individual snake, though you can get a general temperament profile of a species by talking to folks who work with that particular species.I personally wouldn’t consider any of these species (or any species at all, really) to be great pets for someone who hasn’t done much research yet, but learning is easy and fun and you’ll find tons of online resources to get you on the path to discovering the perfect snake for you!I think I’m going to start an FAQ here on Tumblr with some links to great care sheets for some of the more commonly-asked-about species.Know of a caresheet you really love? Have a caresheet you’ve made that you’re particularly proud of? PM me and I’ll include it in the link list!
