You sat curled up on the couch, wrapped in a cozy blanket, scrolling aimlessly through your phone. The soft glow from the TV lit up the room, but you weren’t really paying attention to it. It was just background noise at this point. What you really cared about was Sam, who was sitting next to you, focused on some video he was editing.
The two of you had spent the whole day together, running errands, grabbing coffee, and just enjoying each other’s company. Now, the evening had settled in, and everything was calm. It was one of those peaceful moments that felt right, like you were exactly where you needed to be.
“Hey,” Sam said softly, breaking the silence. You glanced over at him, meeting his gentle blue eyes. He smiled, setting his laptop aside. “You look tired.”
You shrugged. “A little.”
Without a word, he shifted closer, wrapping an arm around your shoulders and pulling you into his chest. You settled into his warmth, your head resting just below his chin. His hand rubbed slow, lazy circles on your back, and you couldn’t help but sigh in contentment. Being close to him like this was your favorite thing—just the two of you, no pressure, no expectations.
Sam leaned his head down, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead. It was so gentle, so tender, that it made your heart swell. You closed your eyes, feeling his lips linger for a moment before he pulled back, resting his cheek against your hair.
“You okay?” he whispered, his voice barely above a murmur.
“Yeah,” you whispered back, your hand finding his, fingers intertwining. “I’m perfect.”
He chuckled softly, the sound vibrating through his chest. “You make me happy, you know that?”
You smiled, feeling warmth spread through your chest. “You make me happy too.”
For a while, neither of you said anything more. The world outside didn’t matter. All that mattered was being here, in this moment, wrapped up in each other. Sam’s fingers played with your hair absentmindedly, and you could feel yourself drifting closer to sleep.
Before you completely dozed off, Sam whispered again, “I love you.”
Your heart skipped a beat, the words sinking in like they always did. Even though he said it often, it never lost its meaning. You squeezed his hand and whispered back, “I love you too.”
And in that quiet, peaceful moment, everything felt right. You were home.
