One of the biggest shocks I got as a kid was hearing Snow White's original English voice by Adriana Caselotti for the first time. As Danish kid I, of course, grew up with the Danish dub by Annie Jessen who played the role VERY differently. As any true Disney fan probably knows Snow White is supposed to be 14 years old. This is never even remotely hinted at in the movie and makes the "romance" of the fairytale extra creepy from a modern perspective, but we're here to talk about voice acting.
While Adriana Caselotti deliberately lightened her voice to give Snow White her iconic high pitch, she absolutely also did it to sound younger than she was. Annie Jessen? Nope. She played it like an adult and sounds like an adult.
Whether you think that is a good choice or not is obviously up to you, but imagine growing up with this voice and then hearing the English one later in life x'D
I understand and appreciate that Adriana Caselotti is mad talented for being able to speak and sing in such a high pitch, but my ears do not like it. This is one of the few examples where I prefer the Danish dub I grew up with over the English original for that reason.
