panic was swift, unrelenting, and cruel in how it all broke out. multiple scrolls lighting up in the middle of the movie had only been the start-- oscar could only watch as disaster descended around them, with news of penny killing plastered all over the news--

it’d been difficult to keep worry at bay, even as he’d tried his best to temper the situation with what he could.

even he could understand the impact of this election.

he’s sure general ironwood would have some course of plan with the dinner invitation in his hand-- and oscar’s sure that ruby may have already heard, but he finds the need to corner her and inform her--

“Ruby. Did you hear the news?”

about the dinner, of course.

"Hey! Weiss!" Oh god, Ruby. Oh no— "Eheh... vibe check?" ...Too late. She'd gone and thrown a snowball right at Weiss.

She turns to face Ruby…. And gets hit in the face. With a snowball.

Several black glyphs raise with piles of snow.

“Ruby Rose. I will show you a vibe check.”

“Ruby... I don’t understand how this could have happened. Why are we stuck in this situation? I never wanted a future where...”

the body of the dead is something he can’t lay his eyes on for more than a couple of moments-- slaughter happened on the farm, of course, but a human body drained of life...

was on a different level.

“I won’t complain if you spill anything on... anything here,” Weiss mutters.

If this had been the party she organized with Yang at Beacon, she would have had Ruby’s head for even thinking of spilling food or drink on their hard work. She assumes Ruby still isn’t any more used to heels, two years later. That’s not the point. Rather, she seems to be all for staining anything that belongs to her father. It’s petulant, childish. It’s beneath her, she knows. But it hardly compares to the crimes committed by her father. It’d be good for him to see what he is.

A stain upon the family world. A stain on the world.

“Ruby, you said you liked fairy tales before, right?” Light musings over a simple thought cycling through her mind the past few days. “Tell me, which is your favorite?”

"Jaune? Sooo... your vibes-- wait! I'm not gonna throw a snowball this time-!" Instead, she pulls out a wrapped present! It has a blue bow on it. She considered yellow, but didn't want to repeat colours. Besides, blue matches Jaune's eyes! "Here! For the... holiday vibes? Eheh..." Unwrapping the box reveals... a custom Pumpkin Pete plushie she'd bought! It has a little detachable plush sword and shield just like Jaune's.

   “Oh, wow, it’s Pumpkin Pete! And he’s got a little sword and shield!”

   Rabbit positively coos, suddenly feeling as if he was but ten years old again; fingers pressing into the soft plush, and toying with the weapons to get a better look of the customization. Pale features bloom with a broad, gracious grin, and it takes the paladin a few moments to realize just how he may have looked.

   Throat clears, eyes flicker, and cheeks burn with a flush that causes voice to warble.

   “I, uh–…

           I mean, this is a really great gift. Thank you, Ruby.”

   Before a bigger fool of himself is made, the plush is carefully tucked under arm as Jaune exchanges to Ruby a small, paper bag hastily colored with what looks to be red markers. He really is trying his best.

   “I’m not so great with picking out gifts, Ren had to help me with this one–”

   Somewhat along the same vein as the rose’s chosen present, inside the bag is a knitted cap in resemblance to one, black and white corgi; with a set of ears nestled atop to bring the piece together.

"Oscar?" Ruby holds out a present towards him, all wrapped up with an orange bow! "Here! Merry nondescript Winter holiday!" Once opened, it reveals... a notebook and pen. The designs on both feature lots of farm animals. "I don't really know if you're into journaling and stuff, but... I just thought it might be nice?" This way... no matter what happens... maybe it'll help reassure Oscar that he'll never *completely* lose sight of who he is right now. That had been her line of thought, at least.

“Merry nondescript winter holiday.”

Oh. That sure is a lot of animals! turning around the notebook, then pen in his hands, grinning. it does remind him of home… but hadn’t he grown up quite a bit since then…? but the thought is what counts. he’s not quite into journaling– to be honest, every day had been a whirlwind, and all their journeying was too classified ( tm ) to journal, but maybe some doodling could be done.

“Thanks, Ruby.”

… a pause.

“I don’t have… anything. I’ll buy you whatever you want once we’re outside in Atlas…?”

… with his minimal lien, but details.
