22: Harry and Raven are ☆ stargazing. ☆
Give Harry a moment alone during the night and you’d be surprised what you see. At an empty home, there were a lot more books than you’d think, the ‘brawny idiot’ always did have trouble reading anything too complicated however. Dozing off between words before just face-planting in a book or -even worse, but true- a contract for the guilds. It wasn’t on purpose, but it did happen … So, take it for surprise when a thick, old tome was outspread on a table in an empty home.
Raven’s head peaking in, having gone to check up on him. Though it was empty … Empty all except that book. Of course the curious bird hadn’t learned his lesson about trying to do things to a Whitehorse and slipped within, fingers finding the pages and flipped through them.
Surprise crossed his face that not even an inch of dust touched the books pages. However, before he could go into reading what it could be, a small but very strong hand grabbed his hair and jerked him down. Blue eyes were staring directly into Raven’s. “That ain’t for you.” Well what wasn’t for him? His mouth opened to question before he found his hair released suddenly and losing his balance. A soft grunt, thump and Harry was walking away, now holding that big book to his chest.
Not deterred in the slightest, the archer scrambled to his feet. Voice echoing to give him a chance and how he was hurting the old man’s feelings by not letting him see something so harmless… Or, that was until he saw it. As he made a turn inward to a certain room his jaw nearly dropped. Books were propped open everywhere, constellations mapped out everywhere, where they went, when they came …
It certainly … would have been a surprising circumstance for anyone who knew Harry to walk in on. Blue eyes turned, staring accusingly at him for still following, but, just as he voiced for Raven to leave, face beginning to turn red to match that weird birthmark on his face, Raven walked in the room. Uninvited, but …
His fingers brushed along the pages of a few lines, checking out the kid’s secret hobby apparently. But, as he went to ask he was quickly torn down a peg by grumbling words. The admittance he hadn’t actually started this. It was something he’d found pre-started… or, so he said.
Not convinced, the bird sauntered over, grabbing the boy’s arm and dragged him out. Yes, dragged, not that Harry was fighting this time. If he had been, this would have been a lot more painful and not worth it anymore at all. An arm slung about the kid’s shoulder and, as soon as they got out of the house, he casually strolled them down the way towards the outside of the city until their feet hit grass and, with a sweep of feet, the boy landed hard on his backside, whining and going to snap at—
Raven shut him up with a tap to his lips before a flick of his eyes upwards caused Harry to turn his gaze away from the bird and up to the sky.
Twinkling stars smiling down at them, light winking at either Raven or him, no-one could be sure. Harry lifted himself, leaning against his knees and just watched them quietly …
“Ya’know, this is probably the cheesiest thing ya’ve ever done with me?”
Snickers and laughter under the night sky, both fell into a comfortable silence again. Relaxed with one another before Harry just flopped back, laying on the ground. Blue eyes refusing to leave the sky, transfixed with everything up there. His reasoning hadn’t started until a near year ago. At his grandfather’s death.
Harry wasn’t one for faith, after all. But he wanted to believe, just maybe … just maybe …
No words passed as they sat there for near the rest of the night, Raven giving a light glance over nearing one o’clock in the morning to see a quietly dozing Harry. Glassy eyes blinking to try and stay awake before closing. A motion wasn’t made to keep him awake. Not at all… Raven felt as if Harry wouldn’t like him for disturbing him and probably just call him out for it when he ‘wasn’t falling asleep’. So, instead, he let the boy fall under the entrancement of the early hours.
A hand found the golden locks afterwards, gently musing through them before Raven stood up, lifting hands to stretch his back. “Keep a good watch on ‘im, alright?” His words were spoken to the night sky as aqua eyes lifted to the stars.
“Casey, old man.”
