My Facebook has been blowing up with the news that Monsanto will be releasing sweet corn containing Bt. Unfortunately, there's a lot of misinformation out there.
I hate the way that capitalism and the industrialization of agriculture has created food inequality and environmental distraction as much as the next leftist, but it really gets my goat when folks buy into fear-based misinformation in order to try and stop this.
Bt isn't the problem. Bt corn isn't even the problem. Bt is actually the protein that organic (no, seriously) farmers use to sprinkle on their crops to prevent them from being eaten by bugs. Bt corn contains that protein within its DNA structure.
The problem is that growing food is about profit margins and not feeding people. And we're never going to solve that problem by spreading lies.
