Yew.tv Snow Film Fest
Yew Zealand we did it!
When I first decided to kick off the Snow Film Fest I knew the location had to suit the Yew.tv vibe, plus, I wanted to live somewhere that suited me to the core. I jumped on a plane and cruised over to New Zealand's action sports capital, a small town nestled in the mountains of the south island called Wanaka, Beer in hand I grabbed my deck and headed for the skatepark. While the sunset reflected off Lake Wanaka I had the best arvo sessions i've had in a while. After meeting some crew I knew that the fact I had no connections at all in NZ wouldn't be an issue, I don't think stress exists in this place. The sun set and I headed to a venue called Cinema Paradiso to take a look, it was love at first sight, after doing what is apparently the impossible and running into the cinema owner Calum then and there I decided the yewniverse was on my side. This one afternoon was super inspiring and helped clear my vision for the whole winter. Going into the Fest I knew it wasn't going to be as big as the Skateboard Film Fesitval, south island NZ has less than a quarter of Melbourne's population, I expected less submissions and a more intimate event. After patiently waiting finally in the last week submissions really started to roll in, films from both Australia and New Zealand, and I was blown away at the talent that we saw. When the votes where all in and every building in town had a Yew.tv poster it was time for the real fun. The event kicked off at 6pm, everyone arrived fresh off the hill to grab a local beer, a fresh baked cookie and nestle into a couch, ready for on-screen shenanigans.
This time prizes were divided evenly, each winner got a $450 prize pack. 5 to the top public voted and some to any of the others of our choice. Victor Engaras killed it with the number 1 most voted video, follwed by: 2nd - Remy Rae 3rd - Matt Chamberlain 4th - Ed Spavin & 5th Kyle Martin As for the judges choice my sponsors and I chose: Rowan Dixon Dylan Perry Finlay Woods Matt Peters
Left: Kyle, Middle: Ed, Right: Victor
