9. Turns out your character is a werewolf. Full moon’s out tonight.
He was surprised the shop was still open. He'd meant to go in a lot earlier to pick up the album he'd preordered (yeah, yeah, he usually stuck to digital download these days, but Louise had sort of guilted him into buying the physical disc in order to support her store), but he had gotten sidetracked at work. It was well past dinner time when the little bell tinkled as he walked through the door.
"Hello?" he called out. "Sorry I'm late. Had some gnarly samples in the lab today, couldn't wait until tomorrow..."
He got no reply. The shop was strangely dark. One of the lights was starting to go out and it flickered occasionally, shrouding half of the store in darkness every couple of seconds. There was no one behind the register. And no customers either.
"Louise?" he called out. "You here?"
He started to stalk down the aisles, wondering if she was listening to music or something and couldn't hear him. But he started to notice that something was... Off.
It was little things at first, a few CDs on the floor, some displays that it looked like someone had bumped into... But then it was bigger things, smashed vinyls, entire rows knocked over. It looked like someone had broken in.
His first instinct was to get the fuck out. He didn't know if whoever had come in was still there or not, and judging by the looks of things, they seemed dangerous. Newt was obnoxiously confident in himself, but not when it came to physical prowess. He could get easily stepped on and he knew it.
But then he thought of Louise and how he probably would be, like, the biggest jerk ever if he didn't at least try to see if she was okay.
So, cursing himself for being too nice, he jumped over the rubble and headed toward the back room.
"Anyone in here?" he asked hesitantly.
He heard someone knock something over to his left and his eyes darted quickly to see where the source of the noise was from. The room was dark too, lit only by the full moon coming in through a window. Someone was hunched over, clothes torn, whimpering. Someone familiar.
"Jesus," he hissed. "Louise, are you alright? What did they do to you?"
Without thinking, he ran towards her, putting a hand on her shoulder to see what was wrong. Before he could do anything else, she shot her hand up and grabbed his. At least, he thought it was a hand. It was a lot furrier than it should be, and instead of fingernails, there were five long black claws.
Newt jumped back, making an undignified noise as he tried to crawl away. Louise turned around to face him just in time for him to see her face change, morph into something longer and more feral. Her teeth had just settled into place when the last of her clothes ripped off and she lunged for him, a giant snarling wolf.
