Your blog was the first place I saw Jon/Aegon VI as a ship and I'd like to hear more about it, if you don't mind
sure okay, buckle up, we are going on a journey.
so ✨snowspear✨ basically my initial thought process was just a lot of disappointment after the got finale. as a hashtag starkcel i was left quite unfulfilled - the thing is that like, r+l=j is a pillar of the narrative. as like, “things the series is built on” it’s up there with the twincest, the long night, dany hatching the dragons. it’s the basis for the rebellion that set the stage for the wo5k and it’s the reason dany is living as an exile on the opposite side of the world and it’s clearly, obviously, heavily tied to several of the mythologies & later book gardening plot lines like bael the bard, the night’s king, theon & asha’s entire stories in the north, this is such a foundational part of the story that theon has visions about it and dany has visions about it and bran gets told cryptic stories about it, it is affecting the plot lines of people a million miles away from jon & in the show they’re just like “haha yeah means jon’s claim is better than dany’s” and that’s IT. jon has no feelings on it, we don’t see any of the starklings react to it, and dany’s focus is completely on her claim & not on The Rhaegar Of It All or even the 3 dragon heads of it all, the incest marriage of it all, NOTHING, bc they cut her entire relationship with all that from the show bc it was hard to get across bc they put in that stupid fucking “no visions & flashbacks” rule. it was just like. what was the POINT of this twist? we literally still don’t know bc d&d never showed any fallout.
so what’s the point of jon snow? what’s the point of all this hubbub over his parentage? let’s poke him with a stick.
play on bastard prince - this is the first one that occurs to me. ties him to not just one of the other sort of pillars of the series in joffrey & the lannicest (another bastard prince being hidden in plain sight but this one acts like a bastard & thinks he’s a prince), but also i think theon as His Shadow Self goes here too (public hostage prince v secret bastard prince + the entire like, jon sits at the wall & longs for winterfell and a stark name & is uncomfortably aware of it, theon is forced into winterfell & longs to be part of it with a stark name & is uncomfortably aware of it. maybe this is a more vague category about like, hidden princes rather than bastard princes?)
“so many vows” -> nw is a pretty direct parallel to the other sworn brotherhoods that promise celibacy which includes both the maesters & the kingsguard. this is where his relationships with the aemons & jaime come in. jon’s story is about a bastard’s honor and what that looks like. jon’s story IS in a conversation with true knight-isms because regardless of him being northern & not being knighted that’s like the point of being a true knight - some of the ones who hold to ~the ideals~ are never actually knighted.
no man of woman born -> meaning he’s part of the gender & prophecy convo. rhaegar thought he’d be a girl. dany is expecting two men she can trust. jon has dreams of holding a flaming sword. the prophecy aspect is important but so is its intersection with gender. lyanna meeting rhaegar because she’s the mystery knight. jon within the first few chapters is telling arya that girls get the arms & bastards get the swords. it’s there from the beginning, this sort of like,,,,,, predetermined fate for jon that hinges upon whether he was born a boy or a girl.
okay so what does that have to do with young griff? well first of all, he also has the hidden/bastard prince stuff happening. that’s like the crux of this entire storyline, in fact, he’s literally here to steal dany & jon (and imo, bran too)’s thunder by doing what they do but more acceptably & quicker. he has built in armies, he’ll sweep up the allies, he’ll buy up a lot of the public’s suspension of disbelief vis a vis sudden reappearances of heirs. secondly, he’s a big part of the gender prophecy stuff. he’s the boy that was originally promised (or is he?? dun dun dun!!!), he has the valyrian look, he’s one of those two men dany hopes to find. and thirdly, he IS part of the vows concept - through joncon!
which is to say, there’s a big ass aegon vi shaped HOLE in the show. you can’t combine him with other characters bc of what it is he’s reflecting back AND how it is he is able to complicate things for the povs we are following. what he seems poised to represent is what varys is pushing him as - what if the perfect heir appeared in westeros’ most dire time of need? so if he’s perfect, in jon snow's eyes, before we somehow pull the rug out from under them both, what does that look like?
answer is - it looks like robb lmao. obviously there’s a lot of extrapolation here from “what is the point of r+l=j” to “yg is the targaryen version of robb” but i think it’s a fair jump & i think it IS pretty well set up. varys is hiding his perfect prince, jon was meant to be rhaegar’s perfect prince’s sword-arm-wife, targaryen history loves to go on about visenyalings & aegonlings, and siblings being born for each other, if there’s three claimed targaryens left in the world, of course there’s going to be discussion on what if they started fucking each other again. and people tend to shoot any jon-yg interaction down by going “well yg is fake” okay? so he’s not gonna die page 1 of twow! he has to at the least make a play for king’s landing! he’s gonna be meeting with people & making alliances. people are going to be talking to him and talking about him before he dies. it’s very accepted that yg exists to “spoil” the catharsis you were about to be offered by dany finally trying to go west & jon finally breaking his vows to go back south. so what does “spoiling” look like for jon?? what is a robb that actively ruins jon’s life, the same as it’s theorized that aegon will accidentally but still very much ruin dany’s?
(which, this is another thing with my issue with how people theorize about jon, i’ve whinged about this before esp in relation to dany & tyrion - people give him very clean hands. jon floats around in ghost and then just Appears with his claim & his dragon & his wolf & NO MORE MOMMY & DADDY ISSUES that’s not happening. everyone else around him is still committing war crimes, at best jon is gonna have opinions on it. stop trying to keep him out of the plot!!!)
anyways so, jon is going to be busy at first with being ghost & then probably with being betrayed & breaking his vows, and starkbowl. jon being a bastard prince, i am a very big believer that jon’s crown will be more metaphorical - he will take himself out of the running for winterfell on account of being a bastard, and throw his support behind one of his siblings, BUT the wildlings are going to start calling him their king the way they did with mance (which - THAT imo is the political threat that lingers after the starklings attempt to settle the succession, that jon very publicly turned down his crown….but “took up” another one!). now if you’re very noble, very close to the king/queen/lord/regent/whatever the fuck, but NOT the person themselves……….thats a great spot for an envoy. I’ve been on this “jon will be hand/some sort of ambassador” kick for as long as this blog has been active lol. we got deria for nymor, we got jaehaerys’ sons on his small council, the clear lack of rhaenyra on viserys’, viserys ii for all his nephews, we got brandon snow offering to sneak in for torrhen, we got catelyn acting as voice for robb TWICE!! if jon is getting caught up in the winds of winter & marching the wrong way - south!!! - he’s doing it not as a king but as some sort of Voice Of the Stark In Winterfell.
and on the flip side, aegon is not going very far north. no one ever does to conquer it, they typically meet the northerners in the riverlands rather than go all the way south, and he’s got the riverlands, the reach, and the westerlands to sort out first. if aegon is meeting the starks, it’s bc they come to him & there’s a discussion of using stark forces in the south. i think this is the pretty perfect set up to really delve into Why R+L=J Even Exists - presumably jon knows or is about to know about his parentage and then here comes Perfect Older Brother Electric Boogaloo. Jon continues to struggle with his bastard's honor while colliding with two people who have everything he has ever wanted (a name!!! a house!!!! an inheritance!!!!).
that's my canon basis. now, here’s where i get conspiratorial, i think d&d ripped this scene from aegon-jon where jon basically says "why on earth am i supposed to just trust you" and That Lady responds with "why are you being so mean to me!!" i think aegon is going to be supremely hot and cold with jon, equal parts bratty (because he's 17 & he's frustrated that things aren't going as easily as he hoped) and brave (because He Was Raised To Be Perfect) and jon is going to constantly flip between being unimpressed and besotted. jon knows they're related, yg doesn't. jon has thrown his lot in with the north completely but Here Comes Temptation, and while yg is steady in his grip on the stormlands he struggles to get the crownlands under control & most of the other kingdoms are ignoring his calls.
idk how to end this. i think the sun's son is actually yg and the the mummer's dragon is actually jon snow & they are paired together because they are "brothers" and the final "challenges" dany will face, and i think they are going to meet and have weird feelings about each other.
i actually think it would be really funny if everyone thinks young griff is real but jon is a fake
George Is A Coward For Never Doing Gay Incest
an incomplete list of gay incest he could have done, it was right fucking there come onnnn
Rhaenys/Visenya you are telling me lesbian icon Visenya who hates her husband and lives completely separately from him for decades but somehow managed to live with him while Rhaenys is alive wasn’t in love with Rhaenys? that the paternity of both aenys and maegor is questioned and we get nothing to delve into how that affected the relationship between the sisters? cowardly!
Viserys/Daemon, i’m gonna be honest EYE consider this canon and there’s nothing george can do about it, like daemon beats the messenger who told him viserys remarried bc he’s so mad and that’s NOT gay rage over how much he wants to be his brother’s wife so they can be aegon and visenya and conquer the world together, even while daemon flaunts his privileges as a man?? nah i see right through gyldayn’s heterosexuality.
Aegon II/Aemond, you're telling me Aemond calls himself protector of the realm while his brother is dying of his wounds but specifically doesn't call himself king, and Aegon throws Aemond a party after Aemond kinslays and helps kicks off the war and those two weren't fucking?? whack.
Baela/Rhaena, Baela has this amazing, bad ass, ultimately completely useless stand off that ends in the deaths of two dragons, eventually married to an uncle/cousin who cheats on her constantly, and is completely shut out of politics aka she gets Rhaenyra-ed, and meanwhile Rhaena gets two husbands that adore her, a dragon, and significant respect from the Lords, I am telling you there is some sort of psychosexual obsession here in how in order for Rhaena to rise (and HEAL), Baela must fall and suffer, and Baela "trying desperately to be Daemon's mini me" Targaryen wouldn't get obsessive over this.
Aegon III/Gaemon Palehair is possibly incest given we don’t know who Gaemon’s father is, also i know there’s an awkward age gap but see: my gay little hands and characters i like, also, there’s weird age gaps everywhere and aegon ii was old enough to have a bastard closer to aegon iii’s age if george had been less of a coward smh. so much here in the way gaemon’s crown is torn from his head along with his mothers and he’s forced to serve the monarchy, only to fall in love with the living embodiment of every painful memory gaemon has, of aegon resenting the crown on his own head bc if he’d been the fourth born son he could have never married and lived his life with gaemon, with his brothers, with his mother, but now they’re stuck in these roles that are going to devour them whole and he can see it coming but he can’t stop it!
Daena/Elaena, listen, two sisters with bastards who choose different sides of a war because daena has only ever found freedom with the traditional, racist fucks that want to crown her son so she throws her lot in with them because she will not be a prisoner ever again dammit and elaena was only ever freed when daeron allowed her an outlet for her immense intelligence and she’s in love with a dornish man who opens her eyes to the prejudices at court, and under all that are two girls who only ever found peace in the maidenvault through their small, stolen kisses and raising their bastards together, a little odd family forced together by the madness of their brother completely split apart by the madness of court LIKE??? HELLO?
Baelor Breakspear/Maekar, think of the POSSIBILITIES of how the monarchy is purposefully stepping away from incest only for two brothers so dissimilar to find an attraction between them they don’t understand, Maekar always jealous of all that Baelor is given while Baelor longs for Maekar’s relative freedom and they refuse to say what they really mean, how they really feel, and Baelor dies by Maekar’s hand IT IS GIVING ALRIGHT
Jon/Aegon VI, I will be pushing this literally until the day ados comes out and my whole “they gave show!dany aegon’s plot in the stormlands, the reach, and dorne which means jon/aegon is going to be full of homoeroticism and we will get a scene where Jon calls Aegon a child and Aegon throws a petulant fit in front of his unknown half baby brother” theory gets jossed. and if he doesn’t do it he’s a coward AND I STAND ON THAT.
What is snowspear?
jon snow and aegon vi targaryen aka young griff!
for me, when i think about Why Young Griff Is Here, it’s as this sort of ultimate test for jon & dany. on the jon end, i think so much of his story is focused on how much he years to he identified as a A Beloved Loyal Son. this motivates him to nearly abandon the night’s watch, it drives his moral code, it informs his his relationship with stannis, etc. and them meeting with Just Jon knowing they’re brothers is fun to me because it’s probably the only scenario they could become friends.
it’s very clear aegon is getting a foothold in westeros before dany, and this is going to happen right as the starks are allying with the vale (and probably a lot of wildlings) to take winterfell from the boltons/hold winterfell in stannis' name (or however that shakes out. the point is right as aegon starts politicking, the starks will be ready as well). my theory here is that jon is sent south by his family to treat as a sort of ambassador, similar to catelyn being sent by robb, and that's when aegon and jon start to interact. i think it has the potential to get real juicy between them!
hiiii it’s me. apropos the jace-in-the-north storyline giving nonstop jon parallels, one thing that struck me is the fact that cregan is described as taking to jace because he reminded him of the little brother he lost. that’s the lord of winterfell caring for a targaryen bastard who looks so much like his dead younger sibling (so, ned/jon/lyanna). and then, of course, at least part of cregan’s motivation for coming out swinging at the end of the dance was supposed to be his feelings for jace, his replacement brother, which to me dovetails very nicely with what you’ve speculated before about jon getting a new big bro only to lose him to the dance. okay byeeeee
I’ve usually thought of Cregan showing out for Jacaerys in the line of like, Arya & Sansa & probably Bran coming out swinging for Jon, but YES, There Are Jon Parallels Everywhere For Those With Eyes To See.
I feel like i’ve dwelled a lot on the aegon-jon potentially but the starklings seeing aegon as jon’s brother potential is honestly kinda crazy. like, WANTING it to work out for him, rooting for it even if they don’t really care about like, aegon’s cause or whatever. i think i’ve imagined that jon spends a lot of ados in the south, & the idea that like, jon loses aegon, this brother who is both a real BROTHER and a replacement for robb (and WHAT a replacement! the same confidence bordering on arrogance that comes from being the first born boy, the young brash man as king, racking up wins with ease!!), and jon becomes dedicated to making sure his killer is brought to justice, regardless of his feelings on who the killer is or how culpable aegon might have been in his own demise. and sansa arya and bran are right there, following him, looking after him, more level headed, more invested in keeping JON safe than anything else.
i should do a snowspear graphic that way maybe it catches on as a ship name so i don’t have to dig thru 59 bajillion threesome posts every time i want to think about gay targ incest aksjdj
What's snowspear? I saw it in your header and I'm puzzled.
Hahahaha snowspear is what I call Jon Snow/Aegon VI! I have a conspiracy that most of Dany’s early storyline in s7 was lifted from JonCon & Aegon’s story which would mean it’s Jon and Aegon that have the tense interactions, not Jon and Dany. Plus, I just think Jon finally coming to terms with his relationship with Robb only to have yet another perfect older brother thrown at him to brood over would be really fun!
