Afterdeath Ramble & Observations (don’t take this seriously, it’s only my opinion hahahaha)

Something I find so endearing about Afterdeath is that I’m pretty sure Renrink stated that Geno would die upon Reaper’s touch (please fact check before taking my word for granted, I have a weird memory) Yet literally the majority of artists, including me haha, draw them mostly physical. OH BUT TECHNICALLY Geno can’t die in the Savescreen so that clears up a bit of it, but I am talking about post-savescreen.

Personally I like to believe their arc being Reaper coming to reap Geno IN the Savescreen, failing, then becoming very interested. He visits quite often and they form a bond. My brain loves tragic shit so then I have two headcanons that outline their relationship. First one, quite tragic but not really, they love each other just for the sake of being loved. RT!Toriel aside, Reaper probably formed a connect just because Geno wouldn’t die. Geno on the other hand, he had no one else. I suppose that’s the storyline I’m going for in an Animatic I’m working on (Song’s “She Knows My Name” by The Family Crest, give it a listen cause it’s a banger)

I think the reason I don’t really indulge in the typical ‘flirty Reaper’ is because I personally believe that’s more of a fanon characteristic of his. Sure, I can see him being a bit of a silly goofer, but I doubt he’d go as far as being outwardly flirty. Canon Reaper, from my knowledge, is much more reserved and ‘fucked up’ in a way. I think people tend to forget he’s a cynical character, no issues with that, his more widespread characterisation is extremely fun imo!

As for Geno, boy is he interpreted much more ‘tsundere’-like widely. Very fun characterisation! BUUUUT personally, I believe he’s much more playful and heck, might even possess more fanon Reaper characteristics. He’s very open minded and by the end of Aftertale, he’s depicted as an understanding and empathetic character as seen in his quarrel with Gaster. Onto the fun personality, I think it’s more prominent when he’s in his ‘manipulative era’. Seen cracking jokes with AT!Sans and such. Oh but I certainly see how he could be stubborn if we’re taking CPAU into consideration haha! Lovely dynamic they have there

Can you tell me more about the comic? I’m very interested 🤩

1840s AU (10 chapters) centered around Afterdeath (just cause’ haha) Both of them are University professors, Geno being an exchange prof at Reaper’s campus due to <cough cough plot spoilers>

A lot of AUs make a comeo-ish appearance but yea. I’m planning on writing an Errorink (platonic/romantic up to interpretation) one shot after finishing this one as they leave an unfinished story arc in BA&RR. Other than that I suppose the main themes are revolution (monster equality n such) and possssibly and hopefully a good rivals to lovers arc.

Main plot points are the scientific research project both of them are in (anonymously) called the “Greater Good”, in which Reaper was unfortunately chosen to rob graves for human soul essence in hopes of strengthening monster souls. I think the fun part about their secret lives are that the two are paired up quite often in addition to Geno’s implied crush on Reaper, code named ‘Death’. This will then be wrapped up when <COUGH SPOILERS>

(I’m trying to refrain myself from spilling tooooo much but yup)

I think what sparked off this idea was a midnight thought of “what if I wrote a ‘historical’ rivals to lovers Afterdeath fanfic” to which I said yes. I initially planned to update the fic once a week but due to my inconsistent motivation surges I’m leaving it on a bit of a hiatus as of now until I finish my current project.

If you want to read ahead of the comic, there’s a fic on AO3 that will be updated HOPEFULLY TONIGHT.
