SNSmonth 18 & 19 – “You’re so beautiful” and Hot springs

Naruto slowly sank lower, immersing his body into the warm water. He looked over, Sasuke sitting right next to him – his eyes closed, as his face was turned slightly upward with a small blush adorning his heated cheeks – a sight which stole Naruto’s breath for a moment. He still couldn’t believe they were here, finally together.

Sasuke seemed to notice him staring at some point, even without meeting his gaze. “What is it?”

Naruto smiled. “Nothing. “, he shrugged, “You’re just so beautiful.”

Sasuke didn’t react. He didn’t move, didn’t even open his eyes, but he had definitely heard. Naruto kept watching him, looking at his damp black hair sticking to his forehead, small drops of sweat running down his temple – the scowl finally gone and replaced but nothing but peace and quiet. Well, apart from Naruto’s constant blabbering that was. He had never been able to keep quiet for long.

“I can’t believe that we finally managed to come here.”

At that, Sasuke suddenly stirred, half turning his face – watching him through his now open Rinnegan. “You were always too busy.”, he stated a fact, looking Naruto straight in the eye.  

Naruto sank lowly, trying to hide his pout in the water. Sasuke rolled his eyes in return, before averting his gaze again, watching the night sky. There were clouds tonight, blocking out the stars. It would probably rain soon.

“…Are you sure?”, Sasuke eventually asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

Naruto didn’t need to ask, he knew exactly what this was about, even without Sasuke spelling it out for him once again. This morning Naruto had declined the offer to become the next Hokage. All that training those last years – the long hours studying, learning everything about leadership and diplomacy had made some things painfully clear, at least to Naruto. He didn’t want this to be his life. He didn’t want to be stuck behind a desk, signing papers all day long and having to take decisions concerning the well-being of so many people.

But what had bothered him the most was how little free time he had to spend like this – with Sasuke by his side. The raven had successfully kept his distance for a long time, claiming again and again that it would not be tolerated for the future Hokage to spend that much time with a former criminal. Naruto had always scoffed, ignoring Sasuke’s stupid ideas, sticking to his side despite his constant protests.

Yet, he had noticed. He had seen the looks on people’s faces – the much colder gaze each time Sasuke was by his side. It had made him angry – disappointed.

It had made him even angrier when Shikamaru had agreed with Sasuke, telling Naruto that at some point he might have to choose – that people would not accept him otherwise.  

The choice was fairly easy. Naruto had made it within one second, a single thought filling his head – screaming at him to not let Sasuke leave his side ever again. There was no other way, really.

Kakashi had nearly fainted when Naruto had told him his decision this morning.

Naruto had run directly to Sasuke’s doorstep afterwards, a wide grin on his face as he had told the other. The look of pure shock on Sasuke’s face had definitely been worth it – even priceless.

And now, they were here, sitting silently next to each other, surrounded by soothing water.  They had wanted to come here for a long time.

“I am.”, Naruto moved closer, testing the boundaries. He shifted, leaning his head onto Sasuke’s shoulder. He smiled when the other made no move to push him off.

“Hn.”, Sasuke answered, leaning into the touch. “You’re an idiot.”

Naruto snorted. “Really?”, he couldn’t hide his amusement, Sasuke’s insults had lost their power over him a long time ago.

“You’re…giving up your biggest dream.”, Sasuke couldn’t hide the small hint of worry and doubt in his voice.

Naruto moved his hand, interlacing their fingers under water. He gave Sasuke a light squeeze.

“I think I have all I need already.”
