Right next to that cavity, a dead battering in a lonely grave. Carrying life as a moribund soul for continuity would crave. But its slow pulse, one day, you troubled as its shameful cadence, you entered.

In which I ramble about the past, nostalgia, and video games, for I am a massive nerd.

I’ve never been one for symphonic leanings in heavy music, or symphonic music in general, really. But this song has always done it for me. I mean, there’s a lot of things I don’t like about this track, don’t get me wrong. The production, for one, I don’t like--I think it’s far too clean; far too over-produced. I think the vocals and the drums are a bit too high in the mix. Sometimes the guitars get overpowered by the string sections. And of course, the most important question, where the fuck is the bass?

Despite all my negative thoughts about the song, I do still rather enjoy it, on the whole. And I think a lot of that has to do with nostalgia. I first heard this track years and years ago, in the video game Brutal Legend--the open world / action / strategy / story driven, heavy metal game--the one with Jack Black. Most of the final boss battle had this song playing. Actually, I think it was a mashup of Holiday by Scorpions, and this song--which seems like a weird combination, but I recall it sounding really cool. And after beating the game, you could just go around doing whatever; find the rest of the collectibles, do side-quests, replay the story, grind for achievements / trophies. Or, you could do what I often did: sit in the car and listen to custom playlists of the in-game soundtrack. And this song. Always this song. I used to have that game run, just in the background, so I could listen to sweet jams while doing other shit. 

And, I mean, that was the same for a lot of other video games. ‘Cause, this was before I had an mp3 player, or ipod, or laptop. Like, I’d only had the internet for a year of my life at that point. My family first got internet when I started my first year of high school, and even then, we only had like 15 gig of data a month--which always fucking ran out. I digress though, like, the reason I started buying Cds was due to video games--well, that and my uncle. But, games like brutal legend, the car racing game, saints row, all that stuff--those games got me into music at around that time. And it’s just been a fucking downward spiral ever since, hasn’t it.
