So it turns out the part of our brain that is so useful in absolutely every aspect of life, but most immediately useful in the keeping us out of danger bit is also our greatest stumbling block in the ability to see things as novel: pattern recognition, and one of my favorite greek neologisms, "apophenia."
ah yeah if you mean like seeing patterns in shit that ISN’T THERE then yeah that’s definitely me. i have the double whammy of ptsd and bpd that sort of maxes out the amplitude on that type of shit, basically a tiny or moderate-sized thing happens and to me it might as well be armageddon, i just wish i didn’t always jump back into glaring down at the hellmouth armed with a broadsword and winged helmet when what’s actually in front of my eyes (this time around anyway) is a lit match that merely needs to be snuffed between my fingers. i mean it’s sort of a cool perspective to have as an artist bc seeing in greater dimension than what is Really There can be good for creativity but on a day to day to basis it’s stumbling-blocky as hell
i’ll take a hyper-perceptive view of the multiverse over a drab windowless one though, no matter how useless it may seem
