Some lessons from this Dropout x The Rookie fiasco...

❥Firstly, if you're in the handful of people who are fans of both, what are you doing? Where were you? I've seen backhanded copes and ignorance posting, but why not get organized and bare minimum send petitions or something saying, wow, now that I realize/think about this, it's fucked that your show does these things/accepts these funds.

❥I think very few people know how to move from information/revelation into acceptance. There's an idea that *you personally* discovering something is corrupt will bring about a resolution if you're steadfast enough and, my beautiful angels, that is YA novel thinking.

When I was like 10, I heard "Imagine" by John Lennon for the first time and then became hyperfixated on music and then every movement of the 60s/70s and I SOBBED to my stepfather because, "they've known these things were bad since then, why are we still doing war?" My family is multiracial and I kind of thought like... I don't know, maybe the way people treated my family was new or something. Then you learn and it hurts. Some of you are doing this into your 20s and 30s.

❥Purity is nothing. I'm so serious. There's no such thing as purity. I am thankful I had an OCD diagnosis from a young age & before the trend towards gameified political stances as identity. Walking away from Dropout over this is valid, but I think dedicating yourself to the failure of Dropout - provided they don't pull this shit again - versus getting more serious about donating to your local legal funds, community organizations, giving directly, or, at the very least, rooting for/working towards the change or failure of shows/studios taking police propaganda funding directly is bitter and ego-driven. The best you can hope for sometimes is a no-weight fuck up. If conditions are right, you work to even make something a net positive. Net positives > net negatives

and that has to include the collapse of smaller ensembles/streamers/studios/etc who have done 1 in 1,000,000 crimes per output while hiring the full spectrum of human beings that makes you feel like you won something while massive studios who create this media landscape and build data centers and invest in weapons or worse who hire on white supremacy guidelines for fun and pleasure still get your dollar because you, beautiful angel, are using tumblr dot com on a device and you pay for it from a job and probably all of those things end up evil.
