i think “Pass me the sledgehammer.” with brett in any universe has many possibilities...

“Pass me the sledgehammer,” Brett demanded, loud and angry, and James did so without hesitation. There was very little worth keeping his weapon of choice from Brett, and this wasn’t worth it.

Brett hefted the sledgehammer with ease, held it high over his head and, with a great shuddering crack of metal on wood, brought it down on the door between them and the people they were getting to.

From inside the room, there were screams of terror. James could pick out Trevor and Jakob with ease, Trevor’s familiar start-stop-start-stoping yells and Jakob’s long screech. 

“That’s not - we can’t use sledgehammers!” Asher yelled, sounding enraged, and James shared a glance with Aleks, a grin passing between the two of them.

“Your enemies -” Brett grunted, bringing the sledgehammer down on the wood again, “ - don’t play by -” again, the door going inward easily under his assault, “ - rules!”

The top half of the door flew in, the handle hanging useless, the splintered wood posing quite the threat. 

“What kind of training exercise is this!” Jakob yelled, covering his chest and crotch with his arms like he was naked even though he was covered by both his regular clothes and a jumpsuit. 

“The true to life kind,” Aleks said loudly, stepping in front of Brett and his sledgehammer to lift his paintball gun, “Now, pretend these are real bullets.”

He let fly, laughing maniacally, and James was laughing so hard he had to lean against the wall, the others screaming as if they were being murdered, Trevor screaming his name like James could somehow convince Aleks to stop, Joe trying to make a deal and give up Anna’s hiding place for his life.

Brett leaned his sledgehammer on the ground, watching proudly as Aleks gunned down the whole room in great sweeps of his paintball gun. 

“Maybe you’ll be better next time!” He called into the room when Trevor went from begging James to begging Brett, and all he got in response was more screaming. Brett slid his eyes to James, though, and smirked wider.

“I dunno what you’re laughing about,” He pointed a finger at him, leaning his weight on the handle of the hammer and shrugging, “You and Aleks are next.”

James lost the smile.

lily moves in across james and sirius

and meets james first

and he’s so cute and fit with his messy hair and dark skin and brown eyes that look at her from behind glasses that she has to physically stop herself from swooning like a 40s actress

they get talking

james invites her to his for tea because he was raised with desi hospitality and he’s 95% sure if he doesn’t feed lily his mum will find out and yell at him

(he also thinks she’s really pretty but let’s be real everyone thinks lily is pretty)

they get along really well and lily is so sure he’s flirting with her 

but then sirius walks in and immediately kisses james on the cheek leaving behind a sloppy lipstick mark and james throws his arm around the shorter boy and smiles at him like he hung the moon

they just look so comfortable and lily’s heart breaks because she really thought james was interested but okay apparently not

also sirius is so nice and works as a baker so its not like lily can hate him or hold a grudge

so she keeps meeting both of them and tries to keep a distance from james but she’s falling so fast and so hard just wow

one day, around a month after she moved in, lily walks in on sirius kissing someone with blondish hair who’s definitely not james

sirius just waves at her and tells her james is at work 

she flees

lily thinks about telling james but she has a policy against getting involved with things that aren’t her business so she keeps quiet

a week later, sirius is pressed against the same guy again- this time in the corridor 

lily flees again

this keeps happening, almost like sirius and his new partner have never heard of locking doors or making out somewhere lily can’t see them

the first couple of times she thought sirius and james had broken up but then she sees them together and they’re as close as always so like ???

she thinks maybe they’re polyamorous but the one time she talked to james about it he said he supported it but monogamy was where he’s at so not that then 

the final straw is when she literally walks in on them fucking

she walks up to james (who’s looking so good in his tank top and tight shorts she almost forgot what she came for) and practically shouts 

“i keep walking in on your boyfriend cheating on you and I know it isn’t any of my business but damn I’ve been crushing on you for two months and this is so not fair"

he just looks really confused and tells her he’s been single for half a year so what is she on about
