Coughs loudly. Is this a safe place to admit that I freaking love Mettaspamtenna but like. Not when tenna is being excluded or treated like a third wheel. Couuugh. Each to their own I GUESS but to me it almost gives off 'haha look this guy thought people could actually love him!! Now look at the two people he actually had any sort of a connection with exclude him! Take that!!'
NO YEA I FULLY AGREE. to be fair i also dont tend to like when one part or section of a poly ship is excluded or left out like that in a way they dont Want to be anyways.
i think a lot of people end up taking certain traits of him at face value without considering context. tennas an attention seeker - But *why* is he doing this? There is an underlying reason for this and its because he will literally die without it. he is seeking love and comfort and inclusion because it is something he cant Have as a neglected object. he will be thrown out if he cannot get attention because hes Functionally useless without it. Why does he kidnap the kids + toriel at one point? It gets revealed in sword route it was a last ditch effort and that he doesnt actually want to do this. he gets read as specifically possessive or even obsessive because of this but he relinquishes as soon as hes offered any other option. he doesnt even trap his employees when they leave. a lot of traits get assigned to him on a surface level assumption that hed have them because hes mentally ill in a specific way without actually applying what the text says about him.
and tenna especially being somebody who is Frequently excluded from things he wants to be included in (one could say this is literally where a lot of his specific trauma stems from) it just feels particularly meanspirited to do to tenna specifically. like i know im a tenna whump guy who loves making him miserable but i do really like when people are nice to him (its the payoff for me in these scenarios, even). very often i see this kind of thing done in a way where hes portrayed as though he genuinely Deserves to be punished in some kind of way and i feel like ive talked enough here about why i dont particularly like that kind of thing nor do i find it productive or constructive for him as a character. do what you will and all i wont stop you but i personally elect to not interact with these kinds of takes lol. now lets do something beautiful and true and have everyone give eachother niceys kissies ok ?
