she is no stranger to the stars. even when she lived among them, before and after, the night sky had always been her companion. late nights full of extensive study and early mornings walking home before the sun had dared to rise. she remembered standing on the moon, royal hope at her back, her home right in front of her. it had been like a dream : to stand where she had so often stared, lost in her thoughts or indulging in a moment of peace. that will always be her most treasured memory from her time with the doctor. there, on the moon, the universe at her fingertips.
she lies on her back now, beside him, her hands loosely held on her stomach above her naval, her legs stretched out and her ankles crossed. she stares at the stars but it is the moon that she returns to. and she smiles. ❝ i doubt i could. ❞ she says quietly, transfixed as she breathes, just breathes, because she so rarely gets a chance to simply exist. her head turns and her smile follows, she looks at him to her left, and she thinks he likely already knows, but she tells him anyway. ❝ i love the moon. ❞
