Growing in the sandy conditions near a coastal port was the introduced species Saponaria officinalis 'Rosea Plena' (soapwort). This vigorous, upright perennial has spreading rhizomes and can be invasive. The species favours a moderately fertile, well-drained, soil in full sun.
