Oc design lore fact is that i designed crank with a mascot head on because i really liked masked characters. Then i realized id have to come to terms with rthe fact that she has a head under the mask but i hate unmasking masked characters sooo so so so so much because the design appeal is ruined once the mask is gone so i decided actually thats just her head now. There’s nothing under there.
I mentioned it in their toyhouse page, but Ger originally met her online buddies (Big T, Fenfang, Orchid) when she accidentally tuned into the radio frequency they use to talk to each other. When the three of them found out there was a stranger on their line, they resorted to their usual tactic: barking very loudly into their microphones to try to overpower her so that she would leave. So that was her first real interaction with them.
Is the title "SO BELOW" in reference to the phrase "as above, so below"? And if so does the phrase's meaning have any sort of connection to the story/worldbuilding besides the fact that things are underground-y?
It is! As the story evolves around the way social rules create false barriers between people by way of class, the application of 'as above, so below' here sort of encapsulates the belief that the people you perceive as above you (or beneath you) maintain the same traits you have. It's sort of about disillusionment with the final step, the last thing you have to do to be happy. If I "make it" to the top, I'll escape everything beneath me. As if what's at the top does not hold the same things you thought it would free you from.
Something about self reflection and inescapable truths and seeing yourself in others. if you catch my application of the phrase here.
Are Crank and Carousel similar in the animal head sewed/magiked on heads? Who did it for Carousel?
smiles serenely. Carousel is Crank's old boss, and the reason that she has the robotic head replacement she does. Carousel is just wearing a mask. He believes in a world where he can be beyond his current physical body, but he's not ready to test that reality on himself just yet. Crank was one of his first successes.
Have you ever drawn what Crank's not-bear head looked like?
I have not! I have kind of a hang up on doing so… I made Crank with the intent of never showing her face, even back when i hadn’t decided she just Didn’t Have A Head. This is because i love masked characters and am almost always disappointed by whatever they look like under the mask. So I was like fuck it there is no under the mask for Crank, which led to wait that’s some crazy implications there huh.
I’ll probably have some design for her in the back of my mind at some point, but it’s gonna be up in the air whether or not I ever show it to everyone. Largely dependent on my thoughts as I explore her character and her image issues and whatnot 🙂↕️

none of them have established identities aside from kallout being trans in some kind of direction so this is a valid statement to make. it makes me giggle also.
hi! ok questions here's a question... what's the political system like in the rings? who's in charge?
it is a land of chaos out there honestly. the closer you get to The Center and The Halls connected to it, the more there is direct authority. But that has less to do with keeping the rings managed and more to do with keeping people out of The Center.
No direct people are "in charge" in any of the rings, but there's unspoken community rules and people naturally break off into groups or factions depending on how they interpret said rules. And since a lot of the environment in the rings runs on competition- certain competitions, where they're held, and who runs them, can also gain social status and become more influential.
