Last week The Tehran Times had the honor of attending a charity event hosted by Boomi Persian Kitchen in Tehran. The funds raised throughout the event were dedicated to empowering the children at Sobhe Rooyesh. Literally meaning “The Morning of Growth” in Persian, Sobhe Rooyesh is a school specialized in empowering and educating Iranian children who are compelled to work. The etymology of the word “philanthropy” reveals that it roots in the notion of love of humanity and in nurturing and nourishing. Loosely interpreted modern day philanthropists are those who’ve been better endowed in life in many aspects and see it upon themselves to give back to a society which has provided them with the opportunities they enjoy in life. It is heart-warming to know the Iranian society is growing more conscious in regards with humanitarian activities in general, and whether it is raising awareness on charitable causes, sharing knowledge, skills or resources we hope to see these movements gaining further ground. www.THETEHRANTIMES.com
