A random thought popped into my head
I was listening to @davebiab‘s song Spectrum, and how sometimes not coming out is safest for your physical health and ensuring a stable living situation. This got me thinking about the phrase “being in the closet,” How you’re hidden; and how it also evokes a sense of discomfort, from the idea of literally being inside closet. The thing is though being in a closet isn’t automatically horrible; I’m autistic and I really love being dark confined spaces (you know, like closets) and I find them relaxing and comforting, especially when I’m having sensory overload.
The reason I bring this up, is that depending on other factors, things that might otherwise be seen as horrible is actually beneficial. Writing this I know that the song was about hiding despite your own desires to come out, because you needed to ensure your own safety. I just thought it was interesting how an unpleasant scenario is mitigated by other factors.
