“Nice car, baby.” Virginia remarked as she leaned towards the open window, grey eyes meeting the others, her lips curling into a sweet smile. Whatever dreams she had coming to Paris were thrown in the gutter--she was too American, wasn’t as waif-like as the beautiful actresses that graced the screen or the stage. She had no other choice but to do what she did best: entertain men, made sure that whatever needs they had in exchange for money were met.

She had built a reputation for being the best fuck this side of Paris--and she felt powerful with the way they begged for her, the way she made them weak with her body.

“Maybe you’ll let me ride in it?” she asked with a small smirk, a red lacquered nail tapping slightly on the rim of the window.

paris has never been his kind of town.

there’s a lot of reasons why. he’s done enough jobs here, and thus the association has shifted from the stereotype to his learned experience, which is violence. either way, though, it’s not john’s job to like or dislike where he is. he can have thoughts about it as long as it doesn’t affect the work. and it never does. he can detach himself that easily, like that. 

still, though, there are things that stay the same. he knows how to get a car, and he knows what he likes.

today it’s a 1967 mustang. not exactly what he prefers, but close enough. he’s pulled into a gas station a few blocks away from the continental, and he leans against the car. keeping an eye out. even if he tried to keep looking unassuming, just some american in a suit, weapons hidden by layers of clothing.

still, though, he knows when someone’s watching. john leans against the car, turns his head just enough to catch a glimpse, and keeps his expression neutral. “need something?”
