An observation on yarn marketed for socks

And the weight of the yarn.

The elasticity and weight of sock yarn varies greatly even though the designated weight on the package claims to be the same. I have "sock" weight yarn that is more like lace when pulled taught. I have a sock yarn that claims to be super fine lace but I know for a fact that it more along the lines of sport weight. I've got a bunch of sock yarns that are all supposedly made of the same fibre mixture, percentage wise as well, yet some will not stretch at all, some stretch too much, and some will stretch but only if you knit it just loose enough that alchemy happens.

Nothing is what it appears to be. This is just like women's clothing all over again. I've reknitted the same pair of socks three times because the swatch I made could not account for the strange chemistry that would happen in tube form. I've got socks with 65st to 50st in the round for the same foot size and they all claim to be the same weight.

Trust no one. Trust nothing. The yarn lies.

GIFT SOCK ROUNDUP!!

got a pair of shorties for my sister (they are ankle length as i know she likes those more). they are also super soft and i have so much of this yarn left and no idea what to make with it lmao

for my mom. i kinda cheated with these cause i already had one of them done so i only had to make one.. but also i was running out of time and extremely stressed about these cause i was and then i wasnt supposed to make gift socks this year until i was basically demanded them so.. yeah. these are very low effort lmao but hey. a sock is a sock tbh (my original plan was to make two pairs for both my sister and my mom but then the plans changed cause of her so welp. anyways. she'll get one pair now and she better be happy i got at least one done cause holy shit this was bad for my mental health)

and these i shared before, but these cuties are for @naritaren 💜 as stated above i was originally planning on making these as gifts for my mom but when that changed i changed the plan and when it changed again i was already deep into making these and promised them to someone else soooo. yeah. anyways i really like these so i hope they are good and fit and everything. they are going in the mail today btw 💜💜💜
