top 5 slipping kimmy moments
I’m not sure if you mean Slipping Kimmy or Slipping Kimmy™, but I’m gonna go with the former although the overlap is significant lol
1. Kim yelling at Howard in 4x02
This is just my all time favorite Kim scene. The acting from Rhea is magnificent and although it’s a very serious scene with Kim full of rage, I squeal every time I watch it. I love the gestures she makes with her hands (the emphasis she places on “never”, thrusting the letter in his face when she says “am I really supposed to do this to him”, etc.), I love how she slowly gets closer and closer to him over time, literally closing in on him, and of course I love how her anger manifests itself in her body language particularly her neck. Kim is such a reflective and thoughtful character who is often slow to action so I find scenes like this is which she loses almost total control (and how that’s shown) so interesting.
2. Kim scheming under the covers with Jimmy in 5x10
The contrast of the tenderness and intimacy of this scene coupled with how dark the scheme Kim and Jimmy are planning is makes me feel insane. This is probably one of the most vulnerable scenes between the two of them with her feeling comfortable enough to be so vulnerable around Jimmy and show him the darkness inside of her so to speak. She’s engaged in ‘the con’ with Jimmy before and she even spearheaded the Coushatta stunt that they pulled, but this is different. This isn’t a bar trick, to quote Jimmy, or making a smug prosecutor’s life hard for a few weeks. She wants to do this for her, to make Howard pay for the way that he’s treated her in the past. This is the unleashing of her breaking bad so to speak and I’m very excited to see how that plays out/where they take her character in season 6!
3. Imitating Kevin in 5x05
I think everything that Rhea has said about this scene is right on the money. Kim and Jimmy do have a playful relationship and have shown that they share the same sense of humor, but she doesn’t typically /perform/ for him the way that he does with her. She is being very vulnerable by engaging with Jimmy like this given that he is someone that is a natural born performer who absolutely excels at little bits like this. In many ways, she’s showing how deep her trust in him goes. TL;DR she is absolutely showing her soft underbelly in this scene and Jimmy and I are both enthralled.
4. Kim being happy with the way her Mesa Verde lunch went in 2x08
This scene is probably the happiest we see Kim in the entire show. She’s so joyful and she just seems so free. Similar to Jimmy, I also love seeing her like this. I think that opening her own practice with Jimmy is something that she obviously wants and has wanted, but Kim, this early in the show especially, is very much someone who plays by the rules and doesn’t like to take risks (we really only see her engage in risky behavior where Jimmy is concerned). So for her to take a huge of a risk as this and have it pay off must have been so rewarding for her. If I was Jimmy, I also would have committed a felony to get her back to this state.
5. The Coushatta con in 4x08
If I had to pick an episode where Slipping Kimmy has undisputedly emerged, it would be this episode. Although she ups the stakes again in 5x10, this is another instance of her doing so, really for the first time. The other cons we’ve seen Jimmy and her engage in are more small-time stuff. This is engaging in multiple felonies and putting her professional reputation, her career even, on the line to do so because her role in the con is to serve as Huell’s official representative. And she is the one who planned it, it was her idea! It almost feels wrong to root for Kim engaging in such self-destructive behavior, but Rhea and the BCS writers room make it so fun.
