Hello there friends! Well right now I am taking a break from filling out internship applications (employers hit me up!) and decided a procrastination blog post was in order! Actually no, this isn’t even procrastinating, applying to summer internships has made me realize how much you rely on others in order to complete the process. Right now all of my applications are saved as drafts because I have written email after email to different professors and past employers asking if I could put them down as a reference. There is no guarantee that the company will contact them, I just need names to put down so that if they need someone to talk about me they could, you know, put in a good word. Seriously even just write me an email with a simple “yes you can use me” and I’ll be happy. I can’t go running to a professors office and bang on their door until they are forced to respond and I can’t call my employer (can’t afford that Denmark to America phone call) because I am in Denmark and that has made the process a little more challenging. I just don’t think they understand how important this is for me and deadlines are quickly approaching as I check my emails 60 times a day waiting for a response to my “reference request” emails. You can even say no, I understand people have their own lives to live, but please at least respond so I feel like a respected person! Sorry for the heavy opening, but writing application after application in the middle of the semester (can you say ‘heavy workload’?) really takes a toll on you after a while.
Anyway my host family came home on Saturday after a week of skiing in Italy and its nice to finally have more people back in the house. Now don’t get me wrong Karla was great to talk to, but she only knows Danish really and oh yea, she is a dog. But on the bright side I have learned many Danish commands so if any Dane needs a dog-sitter hit me up! Being home alone, I also spent all of my Sunday watching a Danish soap opera marathon and I put on the subtitles in Danish and I actually understood most of it so just call me fluent (only when reading though)! Not gonna lie though I really felt like I was living that Danish life, taking the train to the city center everyday for classes, coming home in the evening to cook my own meal in my little Danish home talking to my little Danish dog and watching my Danish soaps. I’m like a regular domestic Dane! Okay yeah I’m pushing it a bit, but I did make my own frikadeller one night and cleaned the whole house so really how much am I over exaggerating? I spent a lot of time in the city center and had friends over the house because, not gonna lie, I don’t like being in a house all by myself, especially at night, so I did put Karla’s bed in my room to keep me company at night. Now the gang is all back and the house is full once again huzzah!
Next week I head to Stockholm with my Sustainable Development class on Sunday. We are taking the train because you know our sustainable selves gotta live that sustainable life! We can’t be jet settahs with their emission levels! I hear the train ride is beautiful, but this one doesn’t pull onto a ferry (throwback Hamburg). We all know I love trains so I’m looking forward to actually have my INTENTIONAL final destination be Sweden (throwback to falling asleep on my commute home). I have been to Stockholm before for a weekend last semester, but we didn’t do that much because it towards the end of the semester and my friend that I went with and I were quite tired. It is one of the top ranked cities in sustainability so we’ll be doing a lot of cool stuff and learning a lot of interesting things, I’m looking forward to it! Headed back to the land of Abba, Ikea, Avicii, and an elaborate boat that sank 1,300m into its initial voyage!
