Now that Nat was back with the pack, Sofia knew, in some way, that word of what she’d done to Colton’s girlfriend would get around to her. While Nash had spoken to her and put her on probation, Nat hadn’t necessarily heard. It’d been over a year since she’d done it, and she was trying to be a better pack member. Besides, she had bigger fish to fry than Colton. So she honestly didn’t really think it needed to be brought up at all. It was in the past, and it wasn’t like she’d killed anyone.

“So things between you and Nash have been . . . good?” she asked curiously as she sat on the counter of the front office of the junkyard. “You and the new girl seem to be getting close too. You look almost . . .  happy these days.” It was strange to see the twins happy. Sofia wasn’t used to it.

Sofia shoulder-checked the guy as she made her way hurriedly past before she stopped short, the familiar smell lingering in her nose. It couldn’t be him. Her stomach lurched and she spun around, grabbing the guy’s arm to yank him around to face her. It wasn’t him. But he smelled like him. How?

“I know that fucking smell,” she snapped. “Why do you smell like Thomas Hauser?”

Sofia liked to run in the early mornings before class. Keeping up this routine was part of her plan to make it to the Olympics. She had to remain dedicated and focused.

She was so focused, loud music blaring in her earbuds, that she didn't notice Will until she ran directly into him. She stumbled back a step, pulling one ear bud out. "Shit, sorry. You okay?"

Sofia glanced around to see what others were doing. The Walker pack had set up a grilling station, and honestly their food smelled delicious, but she knew better than to approach that group. They probably wouldn’t give her any food anyway.

“I bet if we snag our own fish we can claim one of the open grills,” she offered after a moment.

“I really don’t think anyone cares,” Sofia said, shaking her head and resisting the urge to roll her eyes a second time. “You’re trying way too hard for a retail job. There’s literally no point. Just scoop the ice cream and sell it. That’s all you gotta do.”

“No they fucking don’t, weirdo,” Sofia said, shaking her head. “Just admit that you’re the one that made the mistake here. I’m not beating myself up, but you probably should if you’re ever going to get off your high horse. Humility would do you some good, probably.”

“Hello? Can I get some fucking service over here?” Sofia called, leaning over the bar some to try and get someone’s attention. She felt like she’d been sitting there forever waiting to be served. The strip club was busy, but that shouldn’t be an excuse. She was impatient and wanted to get drunk. “Do I need to take my clothes off to get someone’s attention in this place?”

Sofia had no idea what any of this stuff did, but it was interesting. She wandered the aisles of the witchery, just killing time, as she picked up items to inspect before putting them back. She continued to do this around the store before a small bauble fell out of her hands, shattering on the floor. She grimaced.

“Uh . . . was that expensive? I don’t really have much money. Sorry,” she said to the attendant.
