My dash is LITERALLY in the Sofiapocalypse..
Hearing him say that lifted a mass amount of weight off of her shoulders and she breathed a sigh of pure relief. It would definitely take some time getting use to a complete stranger being your husband to be but she was determined to meet this head on and be the best fiance she could and pray something good would come out of all this. "Thank you your highness. It means a lot to my family and I." With a nod of her head and a moment of awkward silence she perked up. "Mind showing me around now?"
It had meant a lot to her family? He was the thirteenth in line to a small kingdom, with no real accomplishments. Sofia has been born a commoner, yes, but had grown up impeccably and possessed the amulet of Avalor.
How his family had arranged this he had no idea. But he suspected they might actually disown him if he ruined another betrothal.
"I would love to," Hans answered, offering her his arm, and wished, for the first time, that Anna and Kristoff were off canoodling and were no where to be found.
"Yes!", Sofia grinned, clapping her hands together enthusiastically. It had been some time since she last explored another kingdom as her ties to Enchancia were tight. She barely had anytime for herself anymore which made her all the more determined to spend every waking moment enjoying herself and getting to know Hans better. "I mean, yes that would be lovely.", she quickly corrected, hoping he didn't mind her outburst. "I would love to see the kingdom. Arendelle correct?"
Her enthusiasm reminded him of Anna, and that was not a thought he needed to have right now.
… But at least she seemed fun.
"Yes," he said. “This is Arendelle, and it is lovely. I’ve only been here for a little over a month and have found myself completely charmed by it. "
He went silent for a moment, trying to think of what to say, fishing for any knowledge he could recall about the princess. “Are your siblings well? Princess Amber and Prince James?"
As Hans inquired why her presence was here in Arendelle, she couldn't help but drop her expression into one of concern. "I was informed your mother had sent you a letter about my arrival and that I would be spending time with you. It's customary for a princess to spend time with her fiance' after all.", she replied, her face lifting slightly. "And since we haven't met, she thought this would be the perfect opportunity to do so. A sort of first vacation together."
Hans blinked in shock. He … was he dreaming? Just hours ago he had received the news that Anna and Kristoff were to be married, and then … this. This was too much.
"Yes," Hans lied, thinking quickly. “Yes, of course she did. I didn’t recognize you from your portrait, your highness. You’ve grown."
He did remember Sofia of Enchancia, of course. She was third in line to the throne, and was known for her kind heart and her peculiar way with animals. At only two years his junior she had always been a potential match for him, but after Anna had come into the picture … he had forgotten all about her.
Apparently his mother did not.
"That sounds lovely, your highness. I’d love to show you around the kingdom."
Egads, he hoped he didn’t sound as dismayed as he felt. He had never felt like this speaking to Anna.
((I’m operating on the assumption that Hans is about ~18 and Sofia 15-16 here, but if you have a different headcanon, tell me!))
Smoothing out her gown she approached the prince, lifting the sides of her skirt when close enough to him and curtsied as gracefully as she could. She was meeting her fiance after all. "Good evening your highness. My name is Princess Sofia."
Hans bowed from the waist, but he frowned as he rose. “Greetings, Princess. To what do I owe the pleasure?"
But even as he spoke, the gears in his head were spinning. He had a letter from his mother this morning he had not yet read, and … Oh, dear God, they couldn’t have found a princess already!
For some reason he found himself praying that she was at the palace to visit Anna.
THERE'S A SOFIA THE FIRST WITH BOOBS IN MY ASKBOX AND I'M SCREAMING/LAUGHING TOO HARD TO ACTUALLY RESPOND
GOD BLESS YOU
