The Chalk Walk was only for July, but I found out that I am welcome to keep drawing chalk murals on the ART247 chalkboard whenever I want. So today I made Chalk Mural 2020 number 2. :) Sofia was there, but she didn't help. She can't even reach the board. Actually, since I accidentally got blue chalk on a couple dolls last time, she waited in the car while I made this. I wasn't able to get back here with the girls as planned this Spring, and the lock was delayed with opening anyway, but now it's Summer, they raised the lock and the canal is open! Here's what the guard lock looks like open,...It is not any prettier,.... Swipe to look back at the place last February, the world really does change with the seasons! - This is a guard lock. It's a lock on the canal, but instead of raising and lowering boats, it controls the water levels each season. In the Winter it's down, sort of acting as a dam, not much water going through, and that helps protect all the other locks and equipment in the city from being wrecked by ice over the Winter. I've never seen the thing move, but check out those giant pulleys on top.
