Jango pauses in the entryway of his apartment as he listens to the sounds of laughter drifting down from the kitchen while the scent of baking fills the air. Feeling a smile tug his lips, he walks into the storage room just off the main hallway, the swish of the front door following behind him.
Pulling his spare clothes down from one of the shelves, he sets them on the chair nearby and starts to remove his armour, placing it neatly in the corner. It’s all muscle memory at this point, having gone through this routine so often that he’s already tugging his pants over his hips. Shrugging on his shirt, Jango can pick out your favourite holiday tune playing on the radio, your voice gently singing along with it. His smile turns into a grin as he hears what sounds like Boba joining in with spoon drums.
Leaving behind the remnants of work, he decides to join in on the fun. His bare feet make no noise as he makes his way to the kitchen, wanting the element of surprise. Though the sight that greets him is a surprise on its own, a balm for his heart.
You and Boba are both facing the counter, your backs to the door, surrounded by various bowls and baking supplies. All the other free space is taken up with all sorts of cookies and buns. Boba is still too small to see over the counter, so he’s standing on the step stool you’d gotten him to help around the kitchen, though right now he’s busy watching you dip cookies in chocolate. There’s a suspiciously clean spoon in Boba’s hand, and Jango’s positive that if Boba turned around there’d be chocolate smeared all around around his face.
You're swaying slightly in time with the music, occasionally gently nudging Boba with your hip, causing him to giggle and try to bop you back. You give Boba a fond look and Jango feels his chest swell with warmth, watching the two of you interact with each other. Even though he’s not of your blood, Jango can already tell how much you love his son.
He must have made some sort of noise because both of you pause what you’re doing and turn around. Boba lets out a squeal of joy, dashing over to Jango “Bu! Bu!” He cries, flinging his arms around his father before reaching up, signalling he wanted Jango to pick him up. “Up Bu! Up!”
Chuckling, Jango does as commanded, picking Boba up and holding him close. “Hello Bob’ika. You seem to be having fun” Jango says, rubbing some of the chocolate off of Boba’s cheek. Boba squeals again, sticky hands patting at Jango’s face as he tries to evade the sudden clean up to his face. With a grin Jango growls, play biting at Boba’s hands. “You smell just like a cookie Bob’ika, I could eat you right up!”
This causes Boba to shriek with laughter “Bu no eat Boba! No!” This bit of play goes on for a bit before Boba smushes his face into his father’s cheek, smearing chocolate in a messy kiss. “Isses! Isses!”
Pulling back, Jango looks at his son, unconcerned about the mess on his face. He’s too busy watching the smile on Boba’s to worry about some clean up.
Jango hears you laugh and holds out holds out his arm, feeling you nestle into his other side, arm wrapped around his waist, his settling around your shoulders. “The mighty bounty hunter, defeated by a kiss.”
He hums, thoughtful “Not a bad way to go” Leaning down he gives you a soft kiss, your lips tasting like cookie batter. Pulling away slightly, he murmurs against your mouth “Especially if you’re the one I’m surrendering to.” Jango’s pleased by the light blush on your face and the way you chase after him, eager for one more kiss. He keeps it chaste, saving the more heated kisses for later. Boba is quiet for the moment, playing with the collar on Jango’s shirt so he places his forehead against yours, enjoying the moment. “Looks like you had fun today as well cyare”
“Couldn’t help it” you grin “just suddenly got a baking urge, and well, here we are” You gesture to the many sweet delights decorating the kitchen.
Jango looks at the sweets then back to you, brow raised “So I see” he says voice droll.
“Watch it mister” you playfully push his chest “or you won’t get to try anything. Which would be a shame since I tried a new recipe for saffron buns. Fresh out of the oven and everything!”
An idea starts turning in Jango’s head ‘Buns huh?’
With the lapse in attention Boba starts squirming and Jango puts him back on the ground, the both of you watching him putter over to one of the bowls on the ground.
Turning his attention back to you, Jango wraps his free arm around your waist, pulling you closer.
He mulls over his words before asking the question on his mind. “What would you say to putting another bun in the oven?”
You ponder for a moment before answering "Well, we’d probably have to wait till tomorrow when there’s a bit more space-” You stop, confused, as Jango shakes his head.
“Not that type of bun cyare.” He brings one hand to settle low on your stomach, “A bun for this oven.”
Oh.
Your eyes widen in realization. Looping your arms around his neck, you pull yourself closer, a hesitant look on your face. “Are you sure cyare?”
The heated look in his eyes is answer enough but Jango knows you need to hear it out loud. “Yes. With you, ner kar’ta, always yes.”
Your face brightens with joy as you pepper Jango’s face with kisses, giving a breathless yes as he picks you up, holding you tight in his arms. Giddy, you whisper loud enough for him to hear “Yes Jango, I’ll gladly have a bun in the oven with you.” He nuzzles into your neck and you can feel the smile on his face.
A small voice by your sides causes both of you to look down and see Boba, a small scowl on his face, looking up at the pair of you. “Up!” He demands, his arms reaching towards you.
Laughing, Jango sets you down and scoops Boba up, so that he’s settled between the pair of you. Your arm reaches around, helping to hold boba close. “Don’t worry Bob’ika, we won’t forget you.”
With a look to Jango, you grin and both of you swoop in to give Boba the biggest raspberries on each cheek, shrieks of happiness filling the kitchen. While it may be raining outside, inside is filled with laughter and love.
Here, right now, will be one of the moments Jango will look back on fondly in the years to come.
