When she tilted her head slightly toward me, a faint smile played upon her lips. Even that brief moment filled a corner of my heart with warmth. I couldn’t know what feelings lay behind her smile, but simply having her by my side was enough. “Do we really have to wear winter uniforms?” Her voice was a little husky, yet what struck me most was how clear and serene it sounded. Between the rustle of leaves in the wind, her voice melted in—gentle and familiar, as if I had known it forever. Just hearing her speak made time feel slower, more peaceful.
