The thing about the Meghan Trainor video is that it makes itself seem like a very body-positive song with a healthy message for girls and women, but in the lyrics she continuously shames "skinny bitches", which is not a body-positive message at all. She also validates her curves because of the preference of men because "boys like a little more booty to hold at night", which again excludes many bodies and encourages using the opinion of others to increase self-esteem.
softspine, I agree that she shames skinny women, but fat women are constantly shamed for their size. In my head, society validates skinny women and it was okay that she wasn’t validating them, because the message isn’t about them? I’m not saying that I’m right, I’m just going through my thought process. She does try to validate her message through the opinion of boys, which is not what I’m about at all. I wasn’t thinking about that when I heard the song. I could care less what boys want. We shouldn't be thinking about our bodies in terms of what men like.
Thank you for sending me this message and giving me something to think about.
