Research and innovation are encouraged in almost all universities in Oman. Oman's universities are at the forefront of research and innovation, pushing students to think creatively and explore new ideas. New ideas must be explained in a manner that everyone can understand. Thus, institutions support student research and innovation by providing a platform for their ideas. The universities also provide conferences, seminars, and internships to give students practical experience in solution creation and innovation.
Research and Innovation at Sohar University (SU)
Sohar University (SU) is proud of its status as the first private university in Oman. In addition to its commitment to research and innovation, the institution encourages creative thinking among its students, professors, and staff.

Intaj Suhar, The Industrial Innovation Hub
Oman's five-year growth plan intends to minimize the country's dependence on oil and gas exports by diversifying the economy. SU has been working on Intaj-Suhar with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion and the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) in Sheffield, UK.
The goal of the project is to cultivate technological expertise and capabilities in advanced manufacturing.
Recently, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, the Industrial Innovation Academy (Madayn), and SU signed a partnership agreement to promote Intaj Suhar for advanced manufacturing. This partnership would help Intaj Suhar grow and make Oman a better place for industrial innovation and manufacturing.
SU offers educators and students a plethora of educational opportunities. Besides offering education, the institution promotes research and development by cultivating intellectual curiosity and innovative problem-solving. As a consequence, many professors working at SU have been acknowledged as the top scientists in the world. The alumni have also established successful businesses or have lucrative jobs which benefit their local communities too.
SU is well-known for its highly qualified faculty and state-of-the-art facilities. While there are many worthy examples to list, these suffice as an example:
Dr Mostafa Ghasemi is an associate professor in the Faculty of Engineering. Stanford University, SCOPUS, and Elsevier have acknowledged him as one of the top 2% of scientists in the world for the second time.
Dr Usama Al-Mulali is an assistant professor in the Faculty of Business. Stanford University has ranked him among the top 2% of scientists in the world for the third time.
Dr Hussein A. Kazem assistant professor in the Faculty of Engineering is among the top 2% of scientists in the world. Stanford University in collaboration with the SCOPUS and Elsevier databases has ranked him for the fourth time.
Thus, Sohar University promotes a culture of intellectual research and analysis. Educators as well as students engage in comprehensive research, self-expression, and skill development to expand their horizons. Its commitment to fostering research and innovation has made SU an educational leader.
