I'll be honest, lovely! I almost didn't put that line in Efflorescence because I was worried it would read as being too cocky. When I write, I do my best to capture the voice of a character. I'll read what I've written and think, "Will he/she/they say this or react this way?". And our florist is soft in the best ways, needy for his girl and confident in his skills, but not arrogant.
At that moment though, I didn't read as cocky or over the top. He just wanted to remind you that HE was the one taking care of you. 🥰 Like he always will.
