Split-flap Solari Message Board
I grew up traveling a lot and there was some awesome design about these boards. They would be sitting there and then a few characters could flip as it was being setup for the next update and that would signal to everyone that we should pay attention. Then in a huge cascading wave the board would update and then after about a minute it was done and we could see the new information.
With the displays they have now, you never know when then update.
I miss that sound and none of the videos really capture it. It was rather loud and due to the acoustics of the typical airport hall it would echo a bit.
