CONFESSION:

I know this is an unpopular opinion but everytime I played a Lavellan, most of the conversations I had with Solas angered me.Whenever my Lavellan discussed anything Dalish with him his responses were always rude, condescending, snarky. And when playing a Lavellan there is NO real ways of challenging Solas that does not involve having to apologize to him, when you did nothing wrong. I found it mentally and emotionally manipulative

And lets compare Solas to Flemeth for a moment. She was actually nice and respectful to my Lavellan. She called my inquisitor vibrant and said "You do your people proud." I think the respect Flemeth has is due to the fact that she witnessed the Dalish's struggle and how they survived and endured because of it. Solas is so arrogant that he fails to see that the Dalish have built a completely new and unique culture due to their circumstances. They are not duplicating ancient elven culture. And of course he looks down on them for not being the exact way he left them.

It made me see that there is a massive difference between Danish Culture and recovering/finding ancient Elven culture. My Lavellans are always proud of who they are. They would NEVER want to be like the ancient elves. Just because the Dalish have gotten a lot wrong about their past DOES NOT MEAN the present culture they created is not valid.

And this is why I will NEVER support Solas and I will NEVER be part of the pro veil destruction sect of the fandom.

CONFESSION:

This is totally a me issue, but when I played inquisition for the first time, Solas creeped me out. I was playing a female elf, which I didn’t know that was like his thing, so his interest from the beginning just weirded me out. And that dream sequence to Haven just was creepy to me. Honestly, neither of these are great reasons, but idk man, I just can’t explain it. He’s an okay character and I’m interested to see him as the “bad guy” in the future, but I don’t think I can ever erase the creepy vibes I initially got from him.

CONFESSION:

I know many will disagree with this but when I hear about all the elves willingly following Solas in the next game and Agents of Solas (willing to die for him) being in the Tevinter Nights book, Jim Jones and David Koresh as well as other Cults immediately come to my mind and it just really upsets me. I've recently lost a family member to a current cult group and another family member will likely have permanent health and other issues because despit getting away from it. I think some people really need to look up what cults are because its obvious many do not understand and find it romantic and such. And I know there is a huge amount of the Solavellan fandom who won't care and will mock this confession but I needed to say it. Its just extremely upsetting to me because my family is broken. And its extremely triggering to me and I really hope that there is MORE to the next game than just that.

CONFESSION:

I can’t romance Solas. I’ve tried. I’ve designed a character specifically to romance him. I just can’t. I don’t find him appealing at all. He reminds me too much of a guy I knew from high school to ever be romantically interested or attracted to him. I just can’t bring myself to do it

CONFESSION:

After reading this book called 30 Covert Emotional Manipulation Tactics I no longer see Solas the same way.Yes, he's a great villain but after reading that book I lost every bit of interest of my Lavellan returning for the next game and falling into the abyss with him and supporting his genocidal plans.

CONFESSION:

I think Solas is an extremely very well written character, but the cognitive dissonance with some in the fandom literally bending over backwards defending him or trying to explain how he's not evil gets over the top ridiculous at times. I actually think what Solas did back in his time was likely necessary but trying to bring it all back at the cost of everyone's lives and basically lying to everyone throughout the entire game does NOT make him a tragic character. It made me see him as a racist  individual with an evil goal who is willing to do evil and terrible things to achieve that goal.

CONFESSION:

I’m starting to feel like Solas has hijacked the franchise. Yes, he’s an elven god, part of the universe’s tapestry, and a threat to the world of Thedas as we know it, but the more I see things focused on him, the more I realize that his story is honestly the least interesting to me compared to everything else - Tevinter versus the Qunari, the Antivan Crows, the concept of magic fading and giving way to only the mundane… All of those are more interesting to me than spending another game trying to stop an ancient being of ambiguous divinity trying to end the world.

Plus there’s the fact that he’s now a specific threat and antagonist who is now spanning at least two games, unlike prior ones. I’m interested in the world of Dragon Age. Not the world of Solas/Fen'Harel.
