I watched Grand Hotel and it was honestly very entertaining. It's still French TV which means it's very over-acted and people are constantly annoyed and snarky and unpleasant to each other. Also it's a soap so it's very dramatic and over the top. But honestly in a fun way ? The main dude is a bit of a bonehead with no sense of subtility whatsoever and it makes no sense he got hired but it's more funny than obnoxious.
The main lady is like. So pretty :
But yeah I also liked her character, kind hearted and determined but also blinded by her privilege. She does have chemistry with the main dude even tho it's a bit instalove but it's a soap so I don't have high expectations and I am rooting for them.
Maxence's character, Will, is adorable ? Very different from everything he's done so far. He introduces himself by talking about his favorite corridor text book pure cinnamon roll. More baby than intense compared to his other roles, which is an interesting change. He is also very very very naive and kind of needs to grow a spine so I think that will be an interesting character arc also his gf is creepy she is actually into his father ? Yikes. Anyway it made me kind of emo to see him in such a big series he's going places !!!
Apart from that everyone is deeply dysfunctional especially the matriarch who smiles like she wants to kill everyone in the room. Love a good fucked up family ! The context of class differences could be interesting too. Not a fan of the very trite "dodgy queer dude who cheats on his wife thing" though like ugh come on. French TV is so backwards when it comes to lgbt characters seriously I'm not surprised.
So yeah it's a bit of a hot mess tbh but it was a lot of fun so I will keep watching for now it reminds me of the cheesy French soaps 8 watched as a pre-teen. Also, lady pretty 😍😍😍.
