Marking the anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima & Nagasaki Canada has announced a plan to increase its military budget spending. During the past month, after pressure from the US, Canada plans to increase its defense budget by 73% over the next 10 years. What do the figures look like? Currently (2016-2017), the defense budget sits at around C$18.9 billion, amounting to about 1.2% of Canada's GDP. With 73% increase, the defense budget would rise to C$32.7 billion in 2026-2027. Meanwhile, budget for social services is being cut.
