' i don't really ( ... ) i don't really dance, jess. YOU GO HAVE FUN --- WITHOUT ME. ' a gesture is made with her hand, the waving away of the pink - tinted girl ( a month ago, this sweeping movement would have been coloured with annoyance, girl swatting away the gnat - turned - friend, but tonight it brims with a fond affection that almost says : CONVINCE ME ). there is a red solo cup in her hand, the apex of teenage movies, and the taste of it is bitter against her tongue. SHE TAKES ANOTHER SIP, MUFFLES A SMILE. ' really, jess, i'm not even --- you can't even dance in jeans, i'm pretty sure. ' as far away from a jane austen novel as you can get, no elizabeth bennet willing herself upon the scene, but the book written here is softer. HAPPIER ( there is no ending in sight! ). ' ( ... ) just one dance, okay? '

@solitaeres → FROM KINSEY TO THOMAS : prompt ↳ “ you’re important to me, you piece of shit. ”
& in that moment thomas had nothing to say. kinsey was no stranger to what lurked in the dark --- she was a visitor of the shadows. club business was in the shadows, they worked in the dark, & most of the time it was bloody business. no doubt abel called her, told her where he was getting patched up. tommy would have to have a conversation with his brother at a later date for that, for worrying her unnecessarily. kinsey had her own problems to deal with, her own demons to fight, without having to worry about his.
the younger teller chuckled a little, though it did hurt to do so. he looked the blonde woman over, a little tilt of his head --- trying to act cute but it didn’t work when he was bloody & bruised. ❛ ❛ you’re important to me too, kins. ❜ ❜ he threw her a lopsided grin, a suggestive wiggle of a brow. ❛ ❛ can we go home & you nurse me back to health ? ❜ ❜

“ the academy is having an open party that functions as a fundraiser ——— and we have to look our best ! plus, you're my GUEST OF THE NIGHT. ” they’d just arrived at the prestigious academy, clad in their best gowns ——— but that didn’t stop the primadonna from discretely pulling the both of them into the private lavatory, lights dim and small CRYSTAL CHANDELIERS OVERHEAD. leaning over the sink, she was perfecting the outline of her lipstick, gaze flickering over to her new friend’s through the mirror, “ i promise we won’t be out too late. PLUS, THERE'S FOOD, like, lots of it despite them telling us not to eat so much. ”

THE AFTERNOON SUNLIGHT THAT FLOODS THROUGH THE WINDOWS bounces off the walls in an attempt to brighten the room that holds an air of indescribable fog. It lays thick and heavy over the two situated in front of a vanity mirror. Miracle Girl stands behind the sitting figure of Girl Lost Now Found. Two cheap headlines that sell hope to anyone who clicks. Luciana does her best to not look at Kinsey’s reflection for too long, but it proves to be harder than she’d expected. She’s memorized the radiant picture they had plastered across posters and newspapers, a face she’s seen a countless number of times lighting up the screen of her phone. Sometimes she wonders if she’s looking at the same face, those same brown eyes, in the mirror before them. She wonders if they’ll ever look like that again.
She tears her gaze away, and instead lets them fall on the knitting motion of her fingers. Carding through dirty blonde hair as she carefully pulls one strand over another into a neat braid. She hums a familiar tune under her breath and asides from the lull of her melody, the room sits in its stillness. Tying the ends together with a simple elastic, she finally looks up to meet Kinsey’s eyes in the mirror. ❝ You look great, ❞ She’s reminded her of this simple fact more times than she can count on both hands. It comes from empathy rather than pity. She doesn’t pity the girl before her, she simply thinks unfortunate things happen to undeserving people. Life works in funny ways, and Luciana will never understand it. ❝ You should let me braid your hair more often. ❞ She offers her a small grin as she gently cups her chin in her palm. ❝ Shouldn’t be hiding such a pretty face behind all this hair. ❞
