Naoto hadn’t heard from her client in several days. Every time she called, it went straight to voicemail. This wouldn’t bother a normal person, under most circumstances. Things happened, phones died, technology failed, etc. But Naoto wasn’t a normal person--and when someone was unreachable for a long period of time like this, that usually meant that something bad had happened.

The young Detective didn’t know how right she was until she turned on the news upon getting into work that day. 

We bring you breaking news from the Samegawa Riverbank this morning in sleepy Inaba, where the body of Akemi Fukunaga was found washed up this morning. The body...The reporter goes on to describe the state of the body, and then moves on to interview the lead detective on the scene...Ryotaro Dojima.

Naoto’s face drained of color and she muted the TV. Akemi Fukunaga was her client. A perfectly normal young woman who had approached her regarding a stalker that the police just couldn’t seem to catch...and now Dojima-san was working the case for her murder? She had to tell him what she knew. She had to find out who did this to Akemi-chan.

Leaving a note on Yosuke’s desk to tell him that she was headed to Inaba for the day, she grabbed her things and headed straight to the train station. Whoever was behind this would not get away with it.

it feels weird for him to be here. ren remembered how over a year ago he and his cousin had been arrested for a false charge. now he stands here as a free man and some people had greeted him warmly as if nothing had ever gone wrong. while he appreciated the gesture did so much overstimulate him.

knowing he has to stay here for three days to see how the situation would end did he bring a little suitcase along. his mother, bless her very soul, had given him enough money to stay at the inn of inaba. to even walk in it’s area alone brings ren comfort and he can’t help but to feel relieved. he eyes the area to hope and see if any of the staff members he knows are here.

     There isn’t much to do when your home is a box, so he leans against the edge of his home and watches as people continue to walk by. Nobody stops to spend time with him, but Teddy doesn’t particularly mind. For once, his belly is full and all he wants to do is chill.      Though it would be nice if someone stopped by…

          It’s all its own little game, really. Putting in minimal effort, letting Dojima yell at him whenever he makes a silly error. At the start, a part of him thought maybe he was trying to get fired --- it’d be easier than just quitting, easier than trying harder. If someone kicks him off the force, then it’s not his fault. And if he keeps trying hard and doesn’t get results, he won’t be disappointed a second time.

So it’s always middle of the road with him. Half-assed. Acting the rookie he isn’t. Dojima knows better, doesn’t let it slide, but it’s a game. It’s all a game.

“Here ya go.” He sets the paper disposable cup on the desk, just out of reach where Dojima won’t knock it over by mistake. He does like his coffee a certain way, and Adachi knows damn well how, but he pretends to forget. Brings it black and hovers over his shoulder, looking down at the files on his desk. Not a lot happens in Inaba. Purse snatchings. Missing pets. Petty crimes. Shit that happens on the daily in the city, but here it’s almost comical how seriously they take all of it. He supposes they’d get bored otherwise.

[~☪~] “Good morning, Dojima-san.”

 It was the usual greeting from the young man as he stepped in the police station, and would bring a mug of coffee for himself and the detective that he worked under while he was in Inaba.

Sure, he had a second job as a cook at Aiya for the night shift until closing, but acting as the Information Broker and gathering whatever information he could and giving his findings to the department where the man worked was what he did for them.

Carefully setting the mug on the side of the male’s desk, and lifting his own up in order to take a sip.

“Sir... have you been here all night again?” if the piece of paper that almost looked like it was stuck to his face wasn’t a clue, the jacket laid over him like a makeshift blanket certainly was.

@solusvita Kiyotaka took a deep breath as he exited the train, shoulder bag securely fastened around him. Truth be told, he was more than excited to spend summer vacation at Ryotaro’s house; after he and his own father had been assigned as partners to one another, he couldn’t help but feel as though he and the other man got on swimmingly. Or at least he hoped so...seeing as the detective had invited him so warmly into his home for an extended stay. Somehow, after attending Hope’s Peak for only a year did things begin to look up for him--particularly his social life--he couldn’t help but believe that the rumors of those who attended achieving great success rung more true each day. Despite all of this, it appeared that one thing hadn’t changed and that was his father’s work situation. It was only a few days ago that he’d received the call before their finals, Kiyotaka confiding in Mondo that his father would not be home for most of their break. For as much as he wished to see his father, to be able to spend more time with him, he was more than aware of their financial situation. It was nothing more than yet another unfortunate circumstance. Luckily a trusted co-worker was more than willing to take him on during said two week break. Instead of departing from their school dorms to his own home, he would be under someone else’s care. It hadn’t taken him long to reach Ryotaro’s house, in fact the walk was rather straightforward. A bit of hesitation ran through him as he lifted his fist to knock on the door, truthfully the student hoped he wasn’t being too much of a burden...particularly on a man who already had a young child to attend to. Yet Kiyotaka found himself releasing a breath he’d been holding whilst on the doorstep. There was no time to worry about such a thing now, and surely the task wouldn’t have been taken on so freely if it truly were something to worry about. So, without further hesitation, he knocked before calling out to the man inside. “Excuse me, Dojima-san! I apologize if I have managed to arrive at an inconvenient hour!”

“Ah, good afternoon Dojima-san.”

Naoto spoke with a pleasant smile on her face. She had to remind herself that this wasn’t her home. Honorfics were something that was required by a society that was still standing. She also didn’t share the same bond that she had with her own Dojima which made this impending conversation that much more difficult. Though she was still a Shirogane and they don’t shrink away from challenges, and this time would be no different.

“How are you doing today?”

          It’s still a bit early to turn in for the night (for anyone but Nanako), and it seems a bit much to start doing his homework now, when he still has to be up for hours to catch the midnight channel. Dojima said that Yu’s allowed to go out in the evenings now, but ... honestly, Yu hasn’t found anything worth doing in this tiny town yet. Also, he should probably get to know the guy whose house he’s staying in. So Yu positions himself in the kitchen, searching it for ingredients, and pretends he’s capable of nonchalant conversation.

          “Are you still working, Oji-san?”
