FortiOS 6.2.0 - Thank You
I was pretty excited last night to see the release notes last night for FortiOS 6.2.0. I was even more excited to read the list of new, expanded or improved features that have been talked about for the last year. Then after all that excitement I was relieved to upgrade the home lab to start testing without a hitch. So this evening I started having my first look at some of the the new features. Some of you may have heard me talking about the importance of leveraging better DNS filtering practices along with Web/App/IPS/Certificate scanning to provide a better "all in" approach to network and endpoint protection. One could argue that this will continue to increase in priority as a topic as IPv6 adoption continues to increase. In my case, I have been effectively using a combination of the built in DNS server/proxy/scanning capabilities along with leveraging the Security Fabric Threat Feeds to create a more complete edge solution for managing forwarded network DNS queries. For those of you familiar with the Pi-Hole project, this can effectively use the Fortigate for similar outcomes. What's the big deal here? FortiOS 6.2.0 now adds in the ability to either enable or enforce DNS over TLS for DNS queries that the Fortigate is making to it's upstream server. This in itself now introduces another layer of privacy and those added switches in the GUI is probably a bigger step forward than a lot of folks will realize. For me it was easy as confirming that my upstream provider supported DNS over TLS, then selecting enforce and then confirming that the queries were now being made on port 853. Now my DNS queries are encrypted and I'm now a little more secure than I was a few minutes ago. So thank you #Fortinet for this. Thank you for listening as I know there are many bigger fish out there making the suggestions. But thank you anyway for empowering your SE's like Herman Tsu and Sean Weiss to actually take the time to have the conversations, respond to the emails and to forward the requests in to the proper groups. Now onto other features and to see if I can inadvertently break the .0 release. PS. Anyone know what happened to Traffic Shaping in Fortiview? It must live somewhere else now right? Have a good weekend!
Na minha solidão uma lagrima rola minha fase, meu coração esta com algum tipo de problema, tenho um tipo de ansiedade, e panico de ficar assim para sempre, essa solidão tem me torturado muito e nada que eu faça tem tido resultado.
