It was twilight when I was walking home from the garden yesterday. I couldn't see very well, but I saw something egg-shaped and white in the grass. I wondered if it was real or plastic. I picked it up, and figured, oh, just a plastic egg. I tapped my fingernail against it to confirm it's plastic.
And it broke! It was a real egg. Horrified, I thought for a second I must have destroyed a potential of a baby bird. But then I realized, it was a very cold egg, left in the grass, just waiting to be stepped on. It was unlikely to find its way to the mother's nest anymore. So it would at most serve as someone's lunch if I hadn't accidentally cracked it.
I found it again the next day and realized it was actually green in color, and not white as it seemed at twilight. Does anyone know what kind of animal lays eggs like this?
I'm excited to never make a mistake like this again!
