Random Ramblings About Cartoons - Part II
So, talking of toons with new seasons and some hype... BoJack Horseman!
Season 3 was really, really unexpected. I don't think I had any idea what to expect from the direction it was going, and it went... well, to many places. And I kind of think I see a trend going on.
Some spoilers ahead, but season 1 wrapped up very nicely. While it had many new things coming up as it ended -- BoJack getting the Secretariat role, Mr. Peanutbutter and Todd partnering up, Diane being torn between the job opporunities in LA and Cordovia... -- they all felt like nice wrap ups. It could have ended there, and I would be happy for it.
Season 2, on the other hand, gave us one big major sequel hook, the vague Jill Pill business, aside from a few more ongoing twists that had a season 1 "resolved twist" feeling as well -- such as Princess Carolyn opening her own agency, or Secretariat running for the Oscars. Season 3 was at bay, and it had to be, because they did drop this major bomb and ran away. We had to know what was that hidden pill in BoJack's past.
And so Season 3 came, and the whole Jill Pill business really went as it came: abruptly. The BoJack Horseman Show, that we only knew as "the other show BoJack did on TV", did linger all over the season, but it didn't get the central spot it seemed to have. Meanwhile, a lot of other plots relating to the Oscars and Princess Carolyn's agency, and many twists and turns along the way really took the plot all over the place, and it was awesome.
And now Season 3 ended with a lot of sequel hooks, this time really more explicit and bearing the same heavy hand that "Jill Pill" did at the end of Season 2. So... yes, great expectations for Season 4. I'll put a lid on my spoiler streak here, but if you did finish Season 3, you know we're in for quite a ride. :V
