Okay, so the mention of pups had my mind reeling! The thought is so cute. So, I though, what if Suo’s mate went out while heavily pregnant with a couple pups. She didn’t go far, perhaps to the river to get some water or to pick berries. When she returns home however, despite already carrying enough with the pups and whatever she went out to get, she’s also holding an injured, unconscious little boy. Seeing her past self in him, and motherly instinct beginning to overwhelm her, she had to help.
OHHH, I’m doing this in the form of headcanons. I hope that’s okay! Also, I’m gonna try my darndest to really crack down on getting my asks done as quick as a can in the future. Life is just so much sometimes. Lol, anyways! I hope you enjoy this. I love my baby ‘Suo so much
You find out that you’re pregnant when you wake up, two or three weeks after the end of Kireksuo’s rut, and proceed to empty the contents of your stomach all over he cave floor
Kireksuo’s not surprised, he’s potent and he knows it(a main factor in why he’d repressed his desires so long), but he’s worried
He’s never witnessed child birth and he knows that there are bound to be complications in the delivery of half human-half something else entirely children, but you keep him calm by telling him that, no matter what happens, you’ll be there to face it together
It’s been almost six months since you’ve started to show, your soft tummy bulging and your breasts growing tender(something Kireksuo appreciates IMMENSELY), and your mate’s become something of a handful
You’d considered yourselves inseparable before, but now… Now he was basically sewn to your side
“No, Kireksuo. I can get dressed myself.”
“No, ‘Suo! I don’t need your help with the fire, I’ve got it.”
“NO! I CAN GO PEE MYSELF!”
Conversations like that^ are a frequent now
Seven months pregnant and you’ve just won an hour long argument against your lover because yes, you can go and get some drinking water yourself because you’re a strong, independent woman. Oh, but ‘Suo, can you hand me the bucket? I can’t bend down to get it.
The cold never relented in this little, frozen wasteland, but you’d learned to enjoy the scenery under the protection of your many layers
The bucket was heavy as you pulled it up from the river and it tumbled right out of your hands at the sight beside you: A young boy, face down in the frozen snow, his little hands turning blue
You didn’t hesitate for a second as you ran over to the child, grabbing him by his shoulders and rolling him onto his back
His little face, dusted with freckles, was flushed red in the cold and tears froze along his dark eyelashes
Your saw your own face in his helplessness and, making up your mind, you grabbed him under the arms and pulled him up against you
You called Kireksuo’s name, knowing he’d never have actually left you out of his sight and watching as he dashed from the tree-line and to your side in the blink of an eye(or four)
You explained to Kireksuo what’d happened and, seeing that look in your eyes, he gathered the boy in his upper arms and began to steer you home with the others
When you arrived, you took the boy back into your arms and began to tuck him safely before the fire, wrapping him gently in the warm furs
Kireksuo didn’t like that. Your scent, you were rubbing away your scent
When the boy‘s hazel eyes fluttered opened, the snow melted from his dark brown hair, the first sight that greeted him was that of a gentle woman, stirring something in a bowl, as a looming, shadowy beast towered above her
The little boy screamed and you turned to him with a frown, you’d shimmied his way and, with a soft voice, you’d explained things to him: told him your name, Kireksuo’s, what had happened, and where he was
He found it hard to believe such an angelic presence could be the ‘mate’ of such an intimidating beast, but he, shaking in the process, took the warm bowl from your hands regardless
His name was Nolt, he’d been driven from his home by a band of thieves who’d thrown him in the river after burning his home to the ground, and he took an immediate liking to you, his gentle savior.
Kireksuo did not like that
However, with firm glares and a hissed conversation, Kireksuo began to teach Nolt this and that
It was good for your mate, you decided, to take care of a child as you waited for your own to arrive, you often stroked your belly at the thought
Around two months later, Nolt and Kireksuo, despite ‘Suo’s best efforts, had grown incredibly close and, when your water broke against the cave floor, they froze
Kireksuo’s shock didn’t last long, he bolted to your side and gathered you in his arms; Nolt watched in surprise as you’d pushed Kireksuo away and told him to go outside
Kireksuo was forced to swallow the growl that bubbled in his throat as he turned and grabbed Nolt by the arm, pulling him outside as well
Your voice stopped him and Kireksuo had to fight every natural instinct within him to not tear the young boy apart
How dare this CHILD be allowed to witness his mate give birth to HIS children? He was interfering in the business of a being FAR superior to him! HE NEEDED TO BE ELIMINATED!!
But Kireksuo, shoving Nolt back into the cave, stomped away and proceeded to destroy the surrounding forest
Nolt didn’t know the first thing about childbirth, but he did know how to follow orders
He gathered furs and lowered you down onto them as you’d instructed, he leaned you against the wall when you’d said, and he brought you the water bucket when you’d asked
You screamed and pushed and Nolt wanted to cry, but he merely cupped cold water onto your face and neck and let you crush his hand in yours
Hours later, hundreds of screams from you and tears from Nolt and howls of fury from Kireksuo outside, you held two children in your arms and Nolt held the third
They were so small and fragile and human…?
They all sported thick heads of white hair and, when Nolt rubbed the screaming babies head, he felt the gentle bumps of horns hiding beneath the skin
Kireksuo busted into the cave at the first whisper of his name and, the sight of you in tears and bleeding, stirred a fury in him so strong that he almost tore Nolt into pieces once more; but your gentle smile and the soft words “‘Suo, triplets. A girl and… boys…” stopped him in his tracks
Time had never moved so slowly and, once Kireksuo reached you, his children’s faces made him want to weep
They were beautiful. They looked like you
Kireksuo took the smallest baby from your arms, a quiet little girl, and pressed his muzzle against her cheek- to which she giggle loudly and grabbed a fistful of her father’s white fur
A tear rolled down Kireksuo’s face and, gathering you and Nolt both in his spare arms, he pressed your heads together with a deep, rumbling purr
You could only laugh, tears bubbling in your eyes as you kissed Kireksuo’s forehead, and Nolt, one arm cradling the smaller boy and the other wrapped around Kireksuo’s neck, smiled “We love you too, Dad.”
And everything that had been broken by the past, by sadness and death, was suddenly and completely made right
I hope you liked that!! It took me way to long to find time to sit down and write it and I haven’t done headcanons in SO long, but I hope you enjoyed it. I made a new son, Nolt, and I love him!! I hope y’all do too!!
