Morgen had never been particularly skilled at gracefully breaking a silence. Why start practicing now? She cut to the chase: “Where was the blood at your ritual from?” Squeaking in alarm, the other girl finally looked up from her phone. “H-how do you know about that?”

Main [The Willing and The Chosen]

The problem with navigating the Academy was that their schedules only provided the abbreviated names of the campus buildings, and the Academy had such a bloated sense of self-importance that it had more buildings than it rightfully needed. There were the three dorms – two for voluntary knights, and one for the Chosen – as well as a building with the cafeteria and a study lounge. Then there was the arena, where all the physical training was conducted. And then, really, there should only have been one or two more buildings for the handful of academic classes and maybe some administrative offices and an auditorium. Instead, the Academy had an inexcusable five buildings for classes and offices, all of which were 90% offices and 10% classrooms. This was all only compounded by the fact that some buildings had distinct names for different entrances, especially if that entrance led to an auditorium (of which the campus inexplicably had three). So someone could find themselves searching for a building labelled SMFA and be unable to find it, because those initials stood for Sir Matthew Frederick’s Auditorium, which was a basement entrance of Steve Peterson Hall and not immediately visible from the main pathways crisscrossing campus.

When she had taken a deep enough breath to speak again, she said, “Your grandma’s a fucking bitch.” Despite herself, Delia laughed.

For Alphabet Soup: 'D'

Thanks for the ask! 🥰

I'm answering for Delia, one of two main characters in Some Strange Magic.

Delia is a Moon Witch, but she struggles with her magic and is very ostracized from her family as a result. Her mother died shortly after she was born due to complications post-C-Section. Given that Moon Witches are matriarchal, an "unnatural"* birth is an ill omen for the child, and the mother dying because of that birth is an even worse omen. So her family really doesn't like her.

Some assorted facts about her:

Delia is very shy (understandably, I think)

She's bi!

She's a vegetarian

Though her relationship with her magic is complicated, when she is casting, her favourite element to work with is water. The other element under the Moon's domain is wind.

Of the characters in this story, she is the second highest on the list for Needs A Hug and A Warm Blanket and Someone to Tell Her She’s Fine Just As She Is.

*(I just wanna make sure it's clear that negative views of C-sections belong entirely to the characters. The vitriol towards it from the Moon Witches is a nod to and critique of biological essentialism in certain feminist circles.)
